- Ipswich are still searching for their first home win since gaining promotion back to the Premier League
- Newcastle ended a four-match winless league run with last week’s 4-0 home success over Leicester
- Recommended bet:
Alexander Isak to score at any time

After successive promotions, Ipswich were probably always going to find life tough in the Premier League, but they need to get their act together at Portman Road if they are to have any chance of staying up.

The Tractor Boys are yet to win on their own patch, but every game is tough and they face a Newcastle team on Saturday who boosted their confidence by beating another promoted side, Leicester, 4-0 last week and also sealed their spot in the EFL Cup semi-finals in midweek.

Team news

Ipswich have issues up front as top goalscorer Liam Delap is suspended and George Hirst is out with a knee injury. Chiedozie Ogbene, Janoi Donacien, Sammie Szmodics and Axel Tuanzebe are also set to sit out.

Joelinton is banned for Newcastle, who are also set to be without Nick Pope, Sven Botman, Emil Krafth, Jamaal Lascelles and Callum Wilson.

The stats

Both teams have scored in five of Ipswich’s last seven home league games

Newcastle’s last three Premier League outings have featured more than three goals

Ipswich have scored more than once in just one of their eight home league matches this season

Newcastle have kept one clean sheet in their last 12 away league games

Eight of the Magpies’ last 11 league away matches have featured over 2.5 goals

Prediction

Ipswich have not been embarrassed in any of their home matches this season and their confidence should have been boosted by recent away wins at Tottenham and Wolves, but the loss of Delap is a big blow for this clash.

With the young striker and Szmodics sidelined, there is no one in Kieran McKenna’s side who has scored more than one league goal, and that has to be a big concern.

Newcastle’s start to the season has been inconsistent, but one player who looks to be at the top of his game is striker Alexander Isak.

The Sweden international has not had the easiest of times with injuries since joining the Magpies, but he has proved a consistent threat after firmly establishing himself in Eddie Howe’s starting line-up.

Isak has found the net in six of his last eight Premier League appearances, including in each of his last three games and he has had multiple attempts at goal in 11 of his 14 top-flight outings.

He can be a handful for any defence and the Tractor Boys could have their work cut out trying to stop him from getting on the scoresheet.
