India to beat England

T20 holders England have recovered from a slow start to the 2024 tournament and battled their way through to the final four, but they face arguably their toughest test when taking on India in Guyana.

England have been on the brink of elimination on a few occasions but they sealed a place in the final four with a superb 10-wicket success over USA, surpassing the modest 115-run target in just 9.4 overs.

India have been convincing right from the very start when they opened up with a crushing eight-wicket victory over Ireland.

They were drawn into closer matches against Pakistan and Australia, but prevailed by respective six and 24-run margins and are approaching the England contest full of confidence.

Team news

High-profile Indian batter Virat Kohli has collected back-to-back ducks but he seems highly likely to keep his place in the side.

The Indians were better with the bat than in the field during their 24-run success over Australia but they are unlikely to make substantial changes.

England have some tricky decisions to make over their bowling attack.

Mark Wood will be hopeful of a recall but he faces a battle to dislodge Chris Jordan, who claimed a hat-trick and a stunning catch in the 10-wicket victory over USA.

Prediction

India have barely put a foot wrong since arriving at the 2024 T20 World Cup and they can ease through to the final by defeating inconsistent England.

The teams crossed paths at the same stage of the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia with England achieving a crushing 10-wicket victory thanks to an unbroken 170-run partnership between Joss Buttler and Alex Hales.

But England have generally struggled in the T20 format this year — losing series to New Zealand and West Indies — and they have been far from convincing on their run to the semi-finals.

Buttler’s side have faced three top-tier teams, losing to Australia and South Africa and defeating the West Indies.

India have defeated a number of strong sides on varying surfaces and they look solid favourites to move on to Saturday’s final at the Kensington Oval, Barbados.
