Lando Norris to finish on the podium

Lewis Hamilton ended a three-year wait for a Grand Prix win around his beloved Silverstone two weeks ago and he will head to another favoured circuit full of confidence for this weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix.

Despite failing to win for a fifth time this season, Max Verstappen still managed to extend his lead in the World Drivers’ Championship thanks to his last-stint surge past Lando Norris, but it is clear that Red Bull’s dominance is waning and there is a real fight for both championships.

The stats

Lewis Hamilton has won the Hungarian Grand Prix a record eight times, while his Mercedes team have won the last two Grands Prix.

Max Verstappen has already failed to win more Grands Prix in 2024 than he did through the entire 2023 season.

Lando Norris has finished on the podium in six of the last eight races.

Predictions

George Russell took the chequered flag in Austria after a collision between the leading duo of Verstappen and Norris sent both spiralling out of contention, with the latter forced to retire after the crash.

Russell’s drive in the Styrian mountains was impressive, but he was not going to win the race without outside help and the victory did not tell us too much about the state of the Silver Arrows.

The British Grand Prix was a different story, though, as Mercedes locked out the front row in qualifying and put in a fantastic showing in a rain-hit race on Sunday.

Russell was forced into a heartbreaking retirement due to a water leak, but he had looked strong up until that point and Silverstone expert Lewis Hamilton took full advantage of the improved Mercedes.

The 39-year-old excelled in the rain to take a record-extending ninth British Grand Prix win and he has the chance to equal his record of nine wins around a single circuit in Hungary.

Hamilton has won the Hungarian Grand Prix eight times in the past and Mercedes have 13 wins around the Hungaroring.

With even more upgrades planned for this weekend, they look a good price to continue their revival.

Norris was the victim of a bungled strategy call in the British Grand Prix as he chased the win, but he still managed to finish third in the McLaren and another podium looks likely in Hungary.

The young Brit has stood on the podium six times in his last eight Grands Prix and finished second here last year.
