LiveScore Racing Preview: Hereford, January 31, 2022
Jumps action from Hereford on Monday is our focus, with a competitive card in prospect at one of Britain's most unique courses.
It is a seven-race card in Hereford and we've picked out five to follow on the day.
1pm - Royal Equestrian Bedding Novices' Handicap Hurdle (2m)
Black Poppy and Maninsane are clear contenders on form but there might be a chance for GAMBIE TIEP to make his mark on handicap bow for Robert Walford.
He was a bumper winner in France and this month's stable bow at Wincanton was fairly encouraging.
He can almost certainly be expected to be sharper for that outing and an opening mark of 104 is well within range.
LiveScore selection: Gambie Tiep
1.30pm - Cazoo Maiden Hurdle (2m5½f)
PERRYVILLE was last spotted finishing second in a maiden hurdle over 2m4½f in June, when trained by Stuart Crawford.
The Mahler gelding is now with Melanie Rowley and that short-head defeat in Ireland looks rock-solid form. The winner has landed two more since, while there were three more subsequent hurdles winners in behind.
LiveScore selection: Perryville
2pm - Central Roofing Novices' Limited Handicap Chase (2m5f)
Switch Hitter and TORIGNI are the likeliest pair in this small field. Paul Nicholls' charge won over fences on chase bow here in November, though that was over 3m1f, but didn't quite match that form since at Ludlow.
Harry Whittington's Torigni has at times been tentative with his jumping in three chase starts thus far, but it did not prevent a win at Leicester last month and there may be more to come from only 1lb higher now.
LiveScore selection: Torigni
2.30pm - Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 Handicap Chase (3m1f)
Last spring was a real breakout for POWERSTOWN PARK as he grabbed three easy wins over hurdles. He got on the scoresheet here over C&D in December.
Back here on a decent surface again, dropped 1lb, he looks to hold strong claims for Sam Thomas and Lorcan Williams.
LiveScore selection: Powerstown Park
3.30pm - Eileen Bennett Memorial Open Hunters' Chase (2m5f)
The 143-rated STRATAGEM could be a strong candidate on his first appearance in a hunter chase for champion trainer Paul Nicholls.
He was a winner over this sort of trip at Doncaster in January last year and ended his season with a fair run at Chepstow in a decent novice contest.
He's had a wind op during his down-time and may continue a fine start to 2022 for owner-rider David Maxwell by providing him with a third winner from six rides so far in the calendar month.
LiveScore selection: Stratagem
