- Savannah Marshall has 12 wins in 13 fights, 10 of which have been via stoppages
- Franchon Crews-Dezurn has only fought twice since January 2020.
- Recommended bet: Savannah Marshall by KO/TKO/DQ

Savannah Marshall returns to action for the first time since losing her unbeaten record to American superstar Claressa Shields with a tough match-up against Franchon Crews-Dezurn.

Marshall is making the step up to super middleweight and is attempting to become a two-weight world champion as she faces undisputed champion Crews-Dezurn.

The American also has just one defeat on her record, in her debut against Shields, and the winner of this match-up may well get a chance to avenge the only losses of their respective careers in 2024.

The stats

Hartlepool-born Marshall won her first 12 fights before her unanimous decision loss to Claressa Shields.

Marshall’s last eight wins have all come via stoppages.

Crews-Dezurn has eight wins in as many attempts after a debut loss to Shields.

The American lost to Alejandra Jimenez in January 2020 but that was ruled a no contest and she has fought just twice since.

Marshall has a height advantage.

Prediction

Marshall has a chance to become a world title holder once again when she comes up against undisputed super middleweight champion Crews-Dezurn in Manchester this weekend.

Marshall is fighting for the first time since losing her unbeaten record and WBO middleweight title to Shields.

Crews-Dezurn also has just one loss on her record and that came in her debut bout against Shields, and the winner of Saturday’s match-up may get a chance for revenge in 2024.

There is no disgrace in losing to Shields, widely regarded as the top pound-for-pound women’s boxer, but it remains to be seen how Marshall responds to that setback regardless.

Crews-Dezurn is known as the ‘Heavy Hitting Diva’ but just two of her eight wins have come via stoppages, and if Marshall can handle her opponent’s power she may be able to claim the win without needing the judges herself.

The ‘Silent Assassin’ boasts an impressive knockout record with 10 of her 12 wins coming inside the distance, including each of her last eight, and she may be able to record another stoppage win here.

Crews-Dezurn, 36, has never been stopped but she is liable to allowing shots to get through, and that could prove to be her undoing against knockout specialist Marshall.

Marshall is also the more polished of these two fighters and did enjoy some success for periods against Shields.

The 32-year-old has been out of the ring for nine months but has still been the far more active of these two boxers over the last couple of years.

Crews-Dezurn was beaten by Jimenez in January 2020 but that was later ruled a no contest, and she has fought just twice since.

In the same time period, Marshall has fought five times — becoming the first person to stop Hannah Rankin and Femke Hermans, as well as inflicting a first defeat on Lolita Muzeya courtesy of a second round KO.

Marshall may be stepping up in weight class but she still has a height advantage over Crews-Dezurn and appears superior both in terms of skill set and in power, with her knockout ratio standing at 77%.

The challenger is the heavy favourite and is odds-on to win on points, but the 5/1 on offer for a Marshall win by KO/TKO/DQ looks the way to go here.

Crews-Dezurn may never have been stopped but she has not really faced anyone with Marshall’s power either, and Saturday’s clash looks like a huge test for a fighter who has spent over a year out of the ring.
