Forest Green missed the chance to go top of the National League table after they were held to a 1-1 draw following a dramatic finale at home against Dagenham and Redbridge.

The home side needed a win to leapfrog leaders York but were stunned when Josh Rees swept home for the visitors from Oscar Rutherford’s cross against the run of play in the 90th minute, to seemingly seal an unlikely win.

Forest Green had been beaten only twice in the league this season and hit back in the fifth minute of stoppage time, former Crystal Palace defender Ryan Inniss powering the ball in at the far post to rescue a point.

It meant York clung to their lead at the summit on goal difference from Forest Green whilst Dagenham are seven points adrift of the play-off places in 15th.

Just a point separates the division’s top three teams ahead of Forest Green’s meeting with third-placed Barnet on Tuesday.
