First official appearance: Somerville lines up alongside Benzema in Al-Hilal's opener
The Dutch winger joined in a record deal: but will he succeed?
Simone Inzaghi has handed Cresencio Summerville his Al-Hilal debut. The Italian coach picked the Dutch winger for the opening match of their Roshn League campaign.
Al-Hilal host newly promoted Al-Fayha this evening, Friday, at the Kingdom Arena in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, in the first round of the competition.
Summerville starts for the first time since arriving from West Ham United this summer, a deal worth 80 million euros according to press reports.
He fills in for the injured Salem Al-Dawsari, lining up alongside Brazilian winger Malcom and French striker Karim Benzema. On paper, it's a fearsome attacking trio.
Summerville isn't the only new face in the starting eleven. Right-back Mohammed Mahzari, another summer signing from Al-Taawoun, also gets the nod.
Mahzari slots into a back four alongside left-back Motaeb Al-Harbi, with Senegal's Kalidou Koulibaly and Ali Lajami at the heart of the defence. Hassan Tambakti misses out through injury.
In midfield, Inzaghi keeps faith with last season's trio: Mohammed Kanno, Portugal's Ruben Neves and Serbia's Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
Al-Hilal want the league title back after two seasons without it. Al-Fayha, meanwhile, are chasing a surprise and hoping to snatch their first point in the opener.
Al-Hilal's line-up was as follows:
Goalkeeper: Yassine Bounou
Defence: Mohammed Mahzari - Kalidou Koulibaly - Ali Lajami - Motaeb Al-Harbi
Midfield: Ruben Neves - Sergej Milinkovic-Savic - Mohammed Kanno
Attack: Malcom - Karim Benzema - Cresencio Summerville
