Ollie Watkins says his performances go under the radar

Wat more can I do?

Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins believes his impressive performances go under the radar.

The striker has scored seven goals this season, including two hat-tricks, and has received his first call-up to the England squad since March 2022.

And the 27-year-old thinks his understated character means he does not make the headlines.

He said: "I go under the radar, maybe. I'm not talked about enough profile-wise.

"I don't know if it's me being at Villa. You get some players that are just likeable and out there. I'm not really too fussed about that.

"I am happy with what I am doing on the pitch and that's all that matters to me. I know I have been producing on the pitch since Unai Emery came in."

Rodri rebuttal

John Carver says Rodri's comments in March irritated Scotland
John Carver says Rodri's comments in March irritated Scotland

Scotland assistant manager John Carver says they must remain professional in tonight's Euro 2024 qualifier against Spain — despite being irritated by Rodri's comments after the reverse fixture in March.

The Manchester City midfielder claimed the Scots were "always wasting time, provoking" in that 2-0 victory.

And ahead of the rematch, Carver hit back saying: "I've got to be honest, I didn't like it.

"I thought it was disrespectful but it was their prerogative to say what they wanted to say.

"It agitated me and I'm sure it would have got to some of the players. But it's about being professional and having a clear head going into this game."

Scotland will confirm their place at Euro 2024 with a win or draw in Seville.

Kosovo vs Israel postponed

Israel's Euro 2024 qualifier against Kosovo, due to be played on Sunday, has been postponed due to the ongoing conflict with Hamas.

The country's game with Switzerland on Thursday night had already been called off.

A UEFA statement read: "The match between Kosovo and Israel scheduled for October 15 has been postponed, as the Israeli authorities currently do not allow their national team to travel abroad."

No chance, mate

Ange Postecoglou says football will never take off in Australia
Ange Postecoglou says football will never take off in Australia

Ange Postecoglou does not believe football will ever take off in Australia in the same way it has in other parts of the world.

The Tottenham manager took charge of the national team from 2013-2017, winning the 2015 AFC Asian Cup but was frustrated by how it failed to attract attention compared to other sports.

Ahead of the Socceroos' game against England at Wembley on Friday, the Aussie coach said: "It didn’t make an impact back there and that was kind of my frustration.

"When you look at what the Matildas did at the [Women's] World Cup, unbelievable, but you still won't see an influx of resources to the game. You won't. I guarantee it.

"They'll build stadiums and other codes will use them. I just don't think the nation as a whole has that inside them to understand you can make an impact on the world of football.

"It requires a kind of nationalistic approach that I just don't think Australians — at their core — are really interested in."

No hard feelings

Marco Verratti holds no grudge towards Luis Enrique
Marco Verratti holds no grudge towards Luis Enrique

Marco Verratti says he holds no grudge towards Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique after he left the club for Al-Arabi last month.

The Italian revealed he was kept in the dark as to why he was let go but that he respects the decision.

He said: "Upon my return for preseason, I had an interview with the coach and he told me I wasn't part of his plans.

"I had spent many years here and he wanted something new. Things don't happen by chance for me.

"The club wanted me to look elsewhere so I started to talk with other teams and I chose Qatar.

"Everyone has their vision of how to play. I think that Luis Enrique needed other players. I have nothing against him. We have a very good relationship."

Not so Junior

Junior Stanislas has retired from football
Junior Stanislas has retired from football

Junior Stanislas has announced his retirement from professional football.

The former Bournemouth winger, 33, left the Cherries in the summer having scored 37 goals in 179 appearances and has decided to call it a day.

He said: "It's been a long time coming.

"It was something I was thinking about a lot before the season ended last year but I think the time is right now.

"The last couple of years I've had quite a few injuries and it's a decision I made peace with a little while ago."

Stanislas also made more than 100 appearances for Burnley and spent four seasons with boyhood club West Ham.
