Stormzy the owner

A three-person consortium made up of British rapper Stormzy, Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha and ex-Eagles kit man Danny Young are set to complete a takeover of AFC Croydon.

An official statement posted to social media reads: "The consortium will own, operate and develop their childhood hometown club.

"While completion is subject to legislative and governance procedures, the three consortium members are excited about developing a community asset in the borough that gave them their own opportunities.

"They hope to take the entire community on this exciting journey with them."

AFC Croydon currently play in the Combined Counties League Premier Division South, the ninth tier of English football.

Palace ace Zaha also owns a club in his native Ivory Coast, having bought Espoir Club D’Abengourou alongside his brother Carin in September 2022.

Rab grabs new deal

French midfielder Adrien Rabiot has signed a one-year contract extension at Juventus, ending Manchester United's hopes of signing him on a free transfer this summer.

The 28-year-old's deal was set to expire on June 30 and that piqued the interest of the Red Devils, but he will now remain with the Turin-based outfit for the 2023-24 season.

Rabiot was one of the Old Lady's standout performers last term, scoring eight goals and contributing four assists in 32 Serie A games.

The 37-cap international joined the Bianconeri in the summer of 2019 from Paris Saint-Germain.

He has made 177 appearances for the club and won three trophies, including the 2019-20 Italian title.

Zlatan praise

Zlatan Ibrahimovic believes AC Milan midfielder Sandro Tonali is ready for a move to the Premier League.

The Italian maestro has been heavily linked with a switch to Newcastle after a superb 2022-23 campaign in which he recorded seven Serie A assists.

And Zlatan — who recently announced his retirement from football — is backing his former team-mate to succeed in England.

The 41-year-old Swede said: "Is he [Tonali] ready for the Premier League? Yes, I think so. Sure, it depends on him.

"I made him understand the right mentality he must have in order to win, and he won.

"He grew up a lot with Milan, he has a great responsibility and still has to grow, but in England he will do it, and he will do it well."

Gundo's gone

Jack Grealish has bid farewell to Ilkay Gundogan after the German's departure from Manchester City.

The midfield maestro's free transfer to Barcelona was officially announced on Monday.

Gundogan, 32, made 304 appearances for the Citizens in a seven-year spell, winning 14 trophies and captaining the team to a historic Treble last season.

Former team-mate Grealish posted on Twitter: "An unbelievable player and more importantly an even greater person.

"Thank you for all the great memories Gundo! You've gave me so many brother all the best to you and your family on your new chapter legend."

Mason stays

Ryan Mason will remain at Tottenham next season as part of Ange Postecoglu's coaching staff.

The 32-year-old stated his readiness for a management role during his interim stint in charge of Spurs last season.

But the one-cap England international has instead been named as one of Postecolgu's assistant coaches, along with former academy player Matt Wells and ex-Crystal Palace midfielder Mile Jedinak.

Chris Davies, formerly Brendan Rodgers' assistant at Leicester, has been brought in as senior assistant coach.

And Rob Burch returns to the North London outfit as goalkeeping coach after spells at Fulham and Bournemouth.

Arteta to detail

Arsenal defender Jakub Kiwior has shed more light on Mikel Arteta's attention to detail behind the scenes at the club.

The Poland international joined the Gunners in January from Spezia and made seven Premier League appearances last term.

Kiwior, 23, scored his first goal for the North Londoners in the 5-0 victory over Wolves on the final day of the 2022-23 Premier League season.

Speaking about how Arteta differs from his past experiences, the centre-back explained: "I was surprised by everything. I'm not talking about training anymore, but also about the approach of coach Arteta.

"He's trying to prepare us before the game, not with talk, but with an idea. He'll always come up with something.

"We often come to the locker room and wonder, 'I wonder what now?'

"Before the away game against Manchester City, we had a briefing at the hotel, and the pitch was drawn on the floor with tapes.

"Plus monitors. And we had to position ourselves adequately to the situation. It surprised me, it was the first time I encountered something like this, but it was great. You knew everything what and how."

Stainworth on standby

Aston Villa midfielder Lucy Stainworth has been added to England's standby list for the 2023 Women's World Cup.

The 30-year-old replaces Jess Park, who will return to Manchester City for rehabilitation on a shoulder injury.

Stainworth joins Manchester United ace Maya Le Tissier on the standby list and will link up with the rest of Sarina Wiegman's squad on Tuesday.

England face Portugal in a friendly on Saturday at Stadium MK, before jetting off to Australia for the World Cup on July 5.
