- Heidenheim could stifle Borussia Dortmund
- Expect Monchengladbach to make their mark against Stuttgart
- High-scoring clash expected between Hoffenheim and Bayer Leverkusen

After a brief hiatus for the international break, the Bundesliga is back for matchday three this weekend with Heidenheim, Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig looking to preserve their winning starts.

Only two rounds of fixtures have been played in this season's Bundesliga and it is fair to say it has not disappointed.

Heidenheim emerged as surprise pacesetters before the international break, while Bayer Leverkusen, who went the entirety of the 2023-24 season unbeaten, lost a humdinger against RB Leipzig last time out.

It makes for an intriguing matchday three and here is how the next batch of matches could unfold.

Borussia Dortmund vs Heidenheim (7.30pm, Friday)

Dortmund were held to a 0-0 draw with Werder Bremen last time out and could record another draw against high-flying Heidenheim.

Score prediction: Borussia Dortmund 1-1 Heidenheim

Freiburg vs Bochum (2.30pm, Saturday)

Bochum finished in the relegation play-off spot last season and have lost both of their league fixtures this term, so they could struggle away to Freiburg.

Score prediction: Freiburg 2-0 Bochum

Wolfsburg vs Eintracht Frankfurt (2.30pm, Saturday)

Wolfsburg have made a positive start to the season, pushing Bayern Munich close in a 3-2 defeat before beating Holstein Kiel on the road and they can edge Eintracht Frankfurt.

Score prediction: Wolfsburg 2-1 Eintracht Frankfurt

Borussia Monchengladbach vs Stuttgart (2.30pm, Saturday)

After coming minutes away from an opening draw against defending champions Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Monchengladbach beat Bochum 2-0 before the break and can follow up with a surprise win over Stuttgart.

Score prediction: Borussia Monchengladbach 2-1 Stuttgart

RB Leipzig vs Union Berlin (2.30pm, Saturday)

RB Leipzig have shown they mean business in the Bundesliga this term after snapping Leverkusen's 43-game unbeaten run in domestic football before the international break.

That should have given them a major confidence boost and they could run out comfortable winners over Union Berlin.

Score prediction: Leipzig 3-1 Union Berlin

Hoffenheim vs Bayer Leverkusen (2.30pm, Saturday)

It has been a tough start to the season for Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen
It has been a tough start to the season for Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen

A last-gasp 3-2 win over Monchengladbach and a defeat by the same scoreline against Leipzig from their first two matches suggest it is going to be a tougher season for Bayer Leverkusen this time around.

They could again be denied a win by Hoffenheim, who are also on three points from two games.

Score prediction: Hoffenheim 2-2 Bayer Leverkusen

Holstein Kiel vs Bayern Munich (5.30pm, Saturday)

Vincent Kompany's Bayern Munich tenure has started with back-to-back wins and another comfortable victory could be on the cards against Holstein Kiel.

Score prediction: Holstein Kiel 0-3 Bayern Munich

Augsburg vs FC St Pauli (2.30pm, Sunday)

Both Augsburg and FC St Pauli have made poor starts to the season, collecting one point between them and a draw looks likely in their clash on Sunday.

Score prediction: Augsburg 1-1 FC St Pauli

Mainz vs Werder Bremen (4.30pm, Sunday)

The Bundesliga weekend could end with a whimper rather than a bang with Mainz and Werder Bremen, who have both drawn their opening two fixtures, set for a goalless stalemate.

Score prediction: Mainz 0-0 Werder Bremen
