Frank Lampard and Coventry will be eyeing another FA Cup run this season

The third round of the FA Cup takes the spotlight this weekend as the Premier League’s elite join the mix and there are some stellar ties to look forward to.

Arsenal entertain Manchester United at the Emirates on Sunday while League Two side Salford have been rewarded for progressing this far with a glamour trip away to seven-time winners Manchester City.

However, there are plenty of non-televised ties that are also full of intrigue and we have picked out our four best bets across the weekend extravaganza.

Saturday, 2pm

Securing Premier League survival will be at the top of Leicester’s agenda and that could leave them vulnerable in this FA Cup third-round clash with QPR, who should see it as a free hit.

The Foxes sit second bottom in England’s top-flight following five straight defeats and upcoming home games with Crystal Palace and Fulham may have swayed their attention away from this encounter.

QPR, meanwhile, are in flying form in the Championship and they have eased their relegation fears having suffered only one defeat in 11. The visitors are surely sensing the opportunity to claim a notable scalp at the King Power Stadium.

Saturday, 3pm

Oxford have been turned inside out by the appointment of Gary Rowett, taking 10 points from their last four Championship clashes, and they will be hoping to put their added quality to good use at League One outfit Exeter.

However, the Grecians are usually good for a goal and this could turn into an entertaining encounter given that both teams have scored in the hosts’ last seven League One fixtures.

Saturday, 6pm

Coventry manager Frank Lampard won the FA Cup on four occasions as a Chelsea player and that means he should be taking the competition seriously.

The Sky Blues were surprise FA Cup semi-finalists last season and they can kickstart another cup run with a home victory over Sheffield Wednesday, who they defeated 4-1 in a fourth-round replay last term.

Coventry have a squad that should be performing much better than their lowly league position implies and only three defeats in nine suggests that Lampard is slowly but surely steadying the ship.

Sunday, 12pm

Hull remain in the Championship relegation zone but they are picking up under former Reading manager Ruben Selles, highlighted by last weekend’s thrilling 3-3 draw at home to leaders Leeds.

The Tigers should have far too much quality for League Two visitors Doncaster, who needed extra-time to come past non-league outfit Kettering in the previous round.

Selles won’t want Hull’s momentum to stall so he should opt to deploy a strong side and they look a fair price to make home advantage count against a Doncaster side that have won only one of their last six away games.
