Epsom Downs is set to play host to The Oaks and The Derby

Today marks the first of two fantastic days of action on the famous Epsom Downs as high summer Flat-racing really begins to thrive.

Before The Derby tomorrow, there is The Oaks at 4.30pm BST to look forward to as the fillies take centre stage.

The Group 1 Coronation Cup at 3.10pm is another standout on the Epsom card, which runs from 2pm until 5.45pm.

Read on as we turn the spotlight on The Oaks and offer predictions for some of the supporting races.

Dettori the man to watch

Frankie Dettori will be fully confident he can win The Oaks for the fourth time in six years when he gets the leg up on EMILY UPJOHN for John and Thady Gosden.

The daughter of Sea The Stars has won all three starts so far, first narrowly at Wolverhampton in November before really impressing at Sandown in April and again in York's Musidora Stakes last month.

She did not look like the finished article on the Knavesmire but she put the race to bed with ease and can only improve again for the experience of winning at Group 3 level.

This longer journey appears to be in her favour and she already sets the standard on ratings with that promise of more to come.

After his recent wins on Enable (2017), Anapurna (2019) and Snowfall (2021), Dettori's excellent Oaks form may continue with a seventh career win in this fillies' Classic.

But that is not to say it will be all plain sailing as Aidan O'Brien sends over Cheshire Oaks winner Thoughts Of June, English/Irish Guineas placed-horse Tuesday — the mount of Ryan Moore — along with The Algarve and Concert Hall.

Add in Charlie Appleby's Pretty Polly Stakes winner With The Moonlight and the other Gosden runner Nashwa and it is clear this is a very decent renewal.

Trainer Tom Clover, meanwhile, will hope Rogue Millennium has something to offer.

She won the Lingfield Oaks Trial last month on just her second start, overcoming a wide trip to battle her way to glory.

Anapurna won the same race before taking this in 2019 and the Dubawi filly is very much entitled to improve again now.

This is tougher, for sure, but she is a contender.

Oaks predictions: Emily Upjohn is hard to overlook but Rogue Millennium can have a say.

Best of the rest at Epsom

Pyledriver looks to retain the Coronation Cup (3.10pm) with that man Dettori on his back this time.

He sets the standard but Owen Burrows' Epsom strike rate is very impressive and HUKUM could enhance it.

He has got close form ties with Pyledriver, while four-year-olds High Definition and Manobo are well respected.

Trainer George Boughey has his team flying and TOTALLY CHARMING looks just the sort to carry on improving back on turf and will be a leading player under William Buick in the World Pool Handicap (2.35pm).

After the main event, last year's Woodcote winner OSCULA will be fancied by plenty to grab another course win for the same Boughey/Buick alliance in the Listed Poundland Surrey Stakes (5.10pm).
