England Women vs Australia Women predictions: Expect batting fireworks in Ashes T20 clash
- England have won nine Ashes T20s to Australia's seven since the format started in 2013
- Australia's Tahlia McGrath scored 91 not out off 49 balls in her last T20 against England
- Recommended bet: Highest individual score over 64.5
Australia Women won the Ashes Test match at Trent Bridge by 89 runs so England Women will be aiming to hit back when the three-game Twenty20 series starts at Edgbaston on Saturday.
The Test victory gives Australia a 4-0 lead on points in the multi-format series so England need to win at least five of the six remaining matches, three T20 internationals and three ODIs, to regain the Ashes.
Team news
England have left out opener Tammy Beaumont despite her double-century in the Test match.
Fast bowler Issy Wong has been recalled to the T20 squad along with fellow youngsters Alice Capsey and Danielle Gibson.
Nat Sciver-Brunt should be fit for the first T20 despite struggling with a knee problem during the Test match.
Australia captain Alyssa Healy will be assessed after keeping wicket with two fractured fingers in the Ashes Test in Nottingham.
Beth Mooney and Phoebe Litchfield are the wicket-keeping options if Healy is not passed fit.
The stats
England spinner Sophie Ecclestone is top of the ICC's T20 bowling rankings, but Heather Knight has reached 20 in only five of her 23 T20 innings against Australia.
England have won nine Ashes T20s to Australia's seven since the format started in 2013, but the Aussies have won seven of their last nine T20 meetings with England.
Australia's Ellyse Perry has a batting average of 59 in Ashes Tests, T20s and ODIs.
Tahlia McGrath scored 91 not out off 49 balls in her last T20 international against England
Prediction
There were some impressive batting performances in last week's Ashes Test match at Trent Bridge, where Australia and England racked up first-innings scores of 473 and 463, and there should be more to come in the first T20 international at Edgbaston.
The T20 leg of the Ashes has generally been competitive since the multi-format system was introduced in 2013 but England will need their batters to step up in Birmingham.
In the last completed T20 international between the rivals, in 2022, England opener Danni Wyatt made 70 but Australia chased down 170 for the loss of only one wicket thanks to Tahlia McGrath's unbeaten 91.
Wyatt scored a T20 century against the Aussies in 2017 and should be in good heart after making 44 and 54 on her Test debut while captain Heather Knight smashed 78 off 45 balls in a victory over Australia in February 2020.
However, Australia have a wealth of talented T20 batting talent including skipper Alyssa Healy, who smashed 148 not out off just 61 balls against Sri Lanka in 2019.
Classy opener Beth Mooney has scored a century and four fifties in just 12 T20 innings against England so backing any player to make 65 or more in Saturday's match looks a good bet.
