Crystal Palace vs Brentford predictions: Eagles can get back to winning ways
- Brentford have lost six of their last seven Premier League matches
- Crystal Palace have scored in nine of their last ten league games
- Recommended bet: Crystal Palace
A few weeks ago, both Crystal Palace and Brentford would have been confident they would not be dragged into a relegation battle, but they are now looking over their shoulders.
That means Saturday’s meeting at Selhurst Park is a key clash and, while the Eagles have not won any of their last six matches, the Bees will be desperate to turn things round after six defeats in their last seven outings.
Team news
Cheick Doucoure, Joel Ward and Jesurun Rak-Sakyi are all out long term for Palace. Odsonne Edouard has a knee injury while Rob Holding faces a late test on an ankle injury.
Ivan Toney and Ben Mee remain banned for the Bees, but Frank Onyeka is back from suspension.
Meanwhile, Rico Henry, Kevin Schade, Aaron Hickey, Bryan Mbeumo, Kristoffer Ajer and Josh Dasilva are all out for Thomas Frank’s side.
The stats
Brentford have lost six of their last seven league games, while Palace have not won any of their last eight matches.
Six of Brentford’s last eight league games have featured at least three goals.
Palace have scored in nine of their last ten Premier League outings, while both teams have scored in four of Brentford’s last five matches and in all of Palace’s last four.
Prediction
It could be a difficult second half of the season for both Crystal Palace and Brentford if they allow their poor form to gather pace and that makes Saturday’s clash at Selhurst Park a key battle, because the losers could be in real trouble.
Palace extended their winless run to eight games with their 2-1 loss at Chelsea on Wednesday and a meagre six points from their home matches is clearly a concern.
However, there seems more cause for optimism there than at Brentford as it took a late penalty for Chelsea to claim the points and it was only a couple of weeks ago that the Eagles got a point at Manchester City.
Brentford have lost six of their last seven games, including their last four and their latest 4-1 home defeat to Wolves was a hammer blow.
The continued absence of striker Ivan Toney and a long-term injury to Bryan Mbeumo has left the Bees desperately short up front, meaning they are desperate to claim points on Saturday.
It just seems that Palace are further along the line and have more potential to turn things around and, while they have lost five home matches this season and won just once, against Wolves, they have been beaten by more than one goal only once.
So there seems more scope for another home win and Roy Hodgson’s team represent decent value, because Brentford’s recovery may take a little longer to materialise.
