England and Yorkshire batter Harry Brook has withdrawn from the upcoming Test series in India.

The tourists begin the five-match contest in Hyderabad on Thursday but will now be without their 24-year-old middle-order talent.

Brook has struck four centuries in 20 innings since making his Test debut against South Africa at The Oval in September 2022.

A statement from the England Cricket Board said: "Harry Brook is set to return home with immediate effect for personal reasons from the England men's Test tour of India.

"He will not be returning to India. The Brook family respectfully requests privacy during this time.

"In light of this, the ECB and the family kindly request the media and the public to respect their wish for privacy and refrain from intruding on their private space.

"The England selectors will confirm a replacement player for the tour in due course."

Brook has been an important player for England across all formats in recent years, replicating his red-ball performances with key roles in white-ball cricket, notably winning the T20 World Cup in Australia in November 2022.

Last February, he became the first man to score 800 or more Test runs across his first nine innings, smashing a record that had stood for three decades.

The West Yorkshireman has been seen as an embodiment of the Bazball style fostered under Kiwi coach Brendon McCullum.

In last summer's Ashes series, he became the fastest player to 1000 Test runs by balls faced, reaching the landmark from only 1058 deliveries.

His absence will leave a huge hole in McCullum's batting order as Ben Stokes' men seek an unlikely series victory on the sub-continent.
