The Group 1 sprint is the highlight of a seven-race card at Headquarters, with action underway from 1.30pm through until 5.00pm and conditions set to be 'Good to firm' on the famous July Course.

2.05pm - Bedford Lodge Hotel & Spa Fillies' Handicap (7f)

The claims of Samoot are not easily bypassed, with Sir Michael Stoute's filly having taken second prize behind runaway winner Create Belief in the Sandringham at Royal Ascot last month.

She is a major player but so, too, can be RIKNNAH for the Simon & Ed Crisford team. The Shamardal filly was gutsy to win over C&D late last month, completing a hat-trick of wins when she did.

That proved her effectiveness on turf and there should be more progress in her for James Doyle and the Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktoum team.

2.40pm - bet365 Mile Handicap (1m)

An opening handicap mark of 93 is deemed workable for smart-looking Godolphin colt ROYAL FLEET. His Kempton win in November on debut was smooth and the form worked out well, while the same can be said of April's success at Yarmouth over a mile on quick ground.

He made it 2-2 with minimum fuss despite conceding a penalty and that form has also been franked by three of his beaten rivals winning next time out.

Qaader, Latest Generation and Kaheall are worthy rivals here, but Royal Fleet can maintain his perfect record for Charlie Appleby.

3.15pm - bet365 Superlative Stakes (Group 2, 7f)

Stepping up into a Group 2 on the back of one win in a Class 5 Doncaster maiden isn't typically the modus operandi of Mark Johnston, but AUSTRIAN THEORY does just that now.

He turned over the re-opposing Private Signal on debut, the Godolphin inmate a winner at Leicester in one outing en route here since, and he did so having got to the front easily before looking very green once there. The Awtaad colt should have learned plenty from the experience and significant improvement is forecast.

Big runs at Royal Ascot ensure Dhabab (sixth in the Coventry) and Great Max (third in the Chesham) are the standard-bearers, but lots of these rivals are lurking improvers.

3.50pm - bet365 Bunbury Cup (Heritage Handicap, 7f)

BOARDMAN won three on the spin at Haydock, York and Chester prior to a midfield finish in last month's Buckingham Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot. He had a poor draw and a poor trip there, and it's best to simply draw a line through that run.

He could, therefore, still have more to come from this mark of 96 that granted a decent crack at the Bunbury Cup and he looks a solid contender on his body of work this season.

Jumaira Bay, Perotto, Ametist and Fundamental headline a long, long list of dangers.

Darley July Cup Stakes (Group 1, 6f)

The feature race of this three-day Newmarket meeting, the Group 1 July Cup has attracted a stellar line-up. Oxted will be the first horse since Right Boy under Lester Piggott in 1959 to retain this crown if Cieren Fallon's mount obliges once more.

He picked up the pieces following a burn-up in the King's Stand last month and must prove he wants to go back over 6f here.

The 3YOs have won four of the last six July Cups and this year's Classic generation are represented by the likes of Creative Force, Method, Rohaan and DRAGON SYMBOL.

Archie Watson's charge was first past the post in the Commonwealth Cup at Ascot last time but lost the race having interfered with Campanelle late on. The pair were five lengths clear and while the stewards' decision looked the right one, it didn't diminish a career-best from the Cable Bay colt giving weight to a speedy filly.

He gets a 3YO allowance now and, with a faster surface in his favour too, may well get compensated for that agonising turnaround 22 days ago under champion pilot Oisin Murphy.
