Ross Barkley is thriving at Luton and providing the Hatters with some genuine attacking intent

- Burnley have lost nine of their 10 Premier League home games this season
- Luton have failed to score in only two of their last 15 league matches
- Recommended bet: Tie or Luton Double Chance

Burnley romped to last season's Championship title, finishing 21 points clear of play-off winners Luton, but the Clarets have struggled on their return to the top flight.

Vincent Kompany's men have lost nine of their first ten home matches in 2023-24 and the exception was a 5-0 rout of bottom club Sheffield United, who had striker Oli McBurnie sent off at the end of the first half.

Burnley also won 2-1 at Luton in October but the Hatters have improved significantly since that reverse.

Their last five games have yielded wins over Newcastle and Sheffield United and narrow defeats to Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea and they are four points clear of the Clarets with a game in hand.

Team news

Burnley will assess the fitness of centre-backs Jordan Beyer and Hjalmar Ekdal. Charlie Taylor is likely to miss out so Ameen Al-Dakhil could start at left-back. Striker Lyle Foster is a doubt and Luca Koleosho remains sidelined.

Luton are missing Issa Kabore, who is at the Africa Cup of Nations, as well as the injured Marvelous Nakamba, Reece Burke, Dan Potts and Tom Lockyer.

Thomas Kaminski should return in goal after Tim Krul played in the FA Cup draw with Bolton.

The stats

Burnley have lost nine of their ten Premier League home games this season.

The Clarets have suffered three 2-0 defeats in their last league fixtures at Turf Moor.

Both teams have scored in only two of Burnley's last eight matches.

Four of Luton's last six league games have featured over 3.5 goals.

Eight of the Hatters' last ten league defeats were by a one-goal margin.

Luton have failed to score in only two of their last 15 league matches.

Prediction

Home form is crucial to the survival chances of any club promoted to the Premier League and Burnley's haul of just three points from a possible 30 at Turf Moor has left them in deep trouble.

They have won both of their matches against their fellow promoted teams this season, scoring an 85th-minute winner against Luton at Kenilworth Road and thumping ten-man Sheffield United 5-0.

However, Luton arrive at Turf Moor in good heart after some impressive recent performances and they should be backed to avoid defeat in the Double Chance market.

England internationals Ross Barkley and Andros Townsend have been rejuvenated by their moves to Luton and the Hatters pose a decent goal threat, scoring at least once in 13 of their last 15 games.

Setting aside Burnley's battering of the Blades, the Clarets have found the net only five times in nine home matches and their top scorer Lyle Foster is an injury doubt for Friday's big game.

Luton, who scored six goals in their recent defeats to Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea, came from 2-1 down to win 3-2 at Sheffield United in their last away fixture and they should take at least a point off their survival rivals.
