Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool can extend their 11-game unbeaten run in the league with a routine win at Turf Moor

- Burnley have conceded 20 goals in nine home league games this season
- Liverpool have lost only one league away game, and are unbeaten in five
- Recommended bet: Liverpool win to zero

After missing out on top spot for Christmas, Liverpool will be looking to head back to the summit before the end of the year, as they prepare to make the trip to Burnley on Boxing Day.

A 1-1 home draw with Arsenal saw Jurgen Klopp’s men move back into second and they will head to Turf Moor seeking to make it three Premier League away wins in a row.

Burnley will be buoyed by their win at Fulham on Saturday, but Vincent Kompany’s men have performed better on the road than they have on home soil.

Eight of their 11 league points to date have been earned away from home, with their only success at Turf Moor coming against fellow strugglers Sheffield United.

Team news

Burnley's Lyle Foster made his first appearance since October at Craven Cottage and, after featuring for 65 minutes, could start again on Boxing Day.

Tuesday’s game looks likely to come too soon though for Aaron Ramsey, Luca Koleosho and Johann Berg Gudmundsson, who all sat out the win over Fulham.

Liverpool will again be without long-term absentees Joel Matip, Andy Robertson, Diogo Jota and Thiago Alcantara, while Kostas Tsimikas could be added to the lengthy injury list.

The Greek defender suffered a collarbone injury in the draw against Arsenal, with Joe Gomez expected to start at left-back.

The stats

Vincent Kompany's Burnley have struggled for both goals and clean sheets at Turf Moor so far this season

Burnley have kept just one clean sheet in their nine home league games to date this season and that came in the 5-0 win over fellow strugglers Sheffield United.

Vincent Kompany’s men have conceded 20 goals across their other eight home matches, which is an average of 2.5 goals per game.

Burnley have not beaten Liverpool at Turf Moor since August 2016, with the Reds claiming the three points in their last five visits.

The Clarets have failed to find the back of the net in their last three meetings with the Merseysiders, with Klopp’s men winning to nil in their last three games at Turf Moor, including a 1-0 success last season.

Kompany’s squad have the second worst defensive record in the Premier League, conceding 36 times in 18 matches, whilst Liverpool have the joint best having leaked just 16 goals in 18 games.

Prediction

It is hard to make a case for anything other than an away win, although Burnley’s confidence should have risen following their unlikely victory at Fulham.

The Clarets' lack of goals at home will be a real concern for Kompany, who has seen his side score just 10 times (one of those was a penalty) in nine league matches at Turf Moor.

Liverpool have lost just one of their nine Premier League away games so far, collecting 16 points from a possible 27 on the road.

Klopp’s men know that with Arsenal not playing again until Thursday, they can go back to the top of the table with a victory in what will be the Reds’ final match of 2023.
