Vincent Kompany's Bayern Munich went top last weekend before smashing nine past Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League
Vincent Kompany's Bayern Munich went top last weekend before smashing nine past Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League

- Bayern Munich have scored 15 goals in last two competitive games
- Bayer Leverkusen are back on the winning trail and next face Wolfsburg
- Bochum, St Pauli and Holstein Kiel are all on zero points

They say cream always rises to the top and the early stages of the Bundesliga season seem to be proving that idiom true as, despite a poor campaign last term, Bayern Munich are leading the way after three games.

Promoted pair St Pauli and Holstein Kiel are on zero points along with Bochum and all three will be looking to pick up a positive result on the Bundesliga’s fourth matchday, which we have previewed in detail below.

Augsburg vs Mainz (Friday, 7.30pm)

Given Augsburg have lost just two of their last nine home matches, they will be feeling confident ahead of a visit from Mainz, who are on just two points after three games.

However, the visitors drew at Champions League outfit Stuttgart in their last away game and are now unbeaten in six road outings, suggesting they can earn a point on Friday.

Score prediction: 1-1

Heidenheim vs Freiburg (Saturday, 2.30pm)

Having gone into last weekend on top, Heidenheim may have expected at least a point against Borussia Dortmund, yet they were ultimately beaten 4-2.

A visit from Freiburg will give them an opportunity to bounce back and they should take it against a side who have won just four of their last 14 away games — losing eight times in that run — and who gave up four points to Heidenheim last term.

Score prediction: 2-0

Werder Bremen vs Bayern Munich (Saturday, 2.30pm)

Vincent Kompany has quickly silenced any doubters who questioned his appointment as Bayern Munich boss by winning all three league matches — scoring 11 goals in the process — before thrashing Dinamo Zagreb 9-2 in the Champions League.

Bayern look simply unstoppable and are unlikely to let up against a Bremen side which shipped four in this fixture last term.

Score prediction: 1-4

Union Berlin vs Hoffenheim (Saturday, 2.30pm)

Union Berlin have enjoyed an unbeaten start to the season and after earning a point at RB Leipzig last time out, they will be feeling confident ahead of a visit from Hoffenheim, who have lost two on the spin.

The visitors were thrashed 4-1 by Bayer Leverkusen last weekend and lost 3-1 at Frankfurt on their last away day, suggesting they may struggle in the capital.

Score prediction: 2-1

Bochum vs Holstein Kiel (Saturday, 2.30pm)

It is hard to have too much faith in  these sides given both are stuck on zero points after three games and they may each set up for a draw on Saturday, with a lack of goal threat in either camp hinting at a boring clash.

Score prediction: 0-0

Eintracht Frankfurt vs Borussia Monchengladbach (Saturday, 5.30pm)

These two will both have aspirations of a top-seven finish this term and while Frankfurt have made a better start, Monchengladbach have had some difficult opening games and the pair look well-matched.

Three of the last five meetings between the two have finished 1-1 and that trend could continue on Saturday evening.

Score prediction: 1-1

Bayer Leverkusen vs Wolfsburg (Sunday, 2.30pm)

Xabi Alonso's champions responded superbly to their first defeat with a 4-1 romp last weekend
Xabi Alonso's champions responded superbly to their first defeat with a 4-1 romp last weekend

Wolfsburg’s only Bundesliga win this season has come against basement boys Holstein Kiel, suggesting they may struggle on their trip to the champions, who bounced back from a rare defeat with a 4-1 thrashing of Hoffenheim last Saturday.

Score prediction: 3-0

Stuttgart vs Borussia Dortmund (Sunday, 4.30pm)

Borussia Dortmund are chasing down Bayern Munich, taking seven points from their opening three games, but drew their sole league away match of the season at Werder Bremen and may have to settle for a point at Stuttgart, who beat BVB three times last season.

Score prediction: 2-2

St Pauli vs RB Leipzig (Sunday, 6.30pm)

St Pauli are still searching for a first point of the campaign, something which is unlikely to come against RB Leipzig, who are unbeaten in nine away games — a run which includes a draw at Real Madrid and a win over Bayer Leverkusen.

Score prediction: 0-3
