Bristol City and Millwall meet at Ashton Gate in a Championship tussle between two sides who finished mid-division last term.

Liam Manning's Robins kicked off this season with a 1-1 draw at Hull before losing 1-0 at home to Coventry in the EFL Cup. Millwall won at Portsmouth by the same scoreline in the EFL Cup after losing 3-2 at home to Watford in the league at the weekend.

Team news

City boss Liam Manning, for so long an avowed 3-4-3 man, went 4-2-3-1 at Hull and pretty much 4-4-2 in the EFL Cup at Portsmouth where Nakhi Wells joined Fally Mayulu up front.

One goal scored in two matches suggests Manning might revert to the one striker option against the Lions. The continued absence of wing-back Ross McCrorie means four at the back could stay, however.

Millwall boss Neil Harris still without Japhet Tanganga in central defence as the ex-Spurs man is suspended. Zian Flemming, Billy Mitchell and Murray Wallace are injured.

Youngsters Romain Esse, Aidomo Emakhu and Alfie Massey starred in the EFL Cup win at Portsmouth on Tuesday and will be pushing for starts in Harris' 4-2-3-1 set-up.

The stats

Nine of Bristol City's last 11 matches have produced two goals or less. Ten of Millwall's last 13 have done likewise.

Both matches between these teams in 2023/24 ended in 1-0 wins to the away side.

City have conceded only one goal in their last five home league games.

Prediction

Goals were scarce in this fixture last season and perhaps unsurprisingly - City were the eighth lowest scorers in the section with 53 goals while only two sides tallied less goals than Millwall, who scored 45.

It was something of a surprise then that Millwall were involved in a five-goal thriller against Watford on the opening day - losing 3-2 - though less of a shock that City's game at Hull ended 1-1.

Bristol City, in fairness, should have beaten Hull and Millwall were definitely unlucky against Watford but passed up a lot of chances.

They did much the same at Portsmouth in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night with a much-changed side, but did enough to win 1-0.

They did, however, concede ten corners to Pompey and you can see City piling up the set-pieces on Saturday.

Manning's team are a forward-thinking unit who will attack from wide and chalked up eight corners at Hull plus another nine at home to Coventry in the EFL Cup. They can definitely get more than 6.5 corners at 21/20 with LiveScore Bet.
