The penultimate event of the 2022-23 PGA Tour season takes place this week as the second of the three season-ending FedEx Cup playoff tournaments, the BMW Championship, is staged at Olympia Fields, Illinois.
Olympia Fields is a Major championship venue which hosted the 2003 US Open, won by Jim Furyk, and the long, demanding North Course also hosted the 2020 BMW, where Jon Rahm emerged triumphant.
The top 50 players on the season-long FedEx Cup list tee it up in the BMW before the top 30 at the conclusion of the event head on to East Lake, Georgia, for the season-ending Tour Championship.
World No.2 Rory McIlroy is the 13/2 favourite with LiveScore Bet with the player above him in the rankings, Scottie Scheffler, next in at 7/1.
Rahm is 9/1 to double up at the course while Patrick Cantlay, already a two-time BMW winner albeit at different courses, is alongside him.
Spanish bull can drive away with second BMW title
Rahm might not be the outright favourite but perhaps too much is being read into last week's performance at the St Jude Championship, where he started slowly before playing the last three rounds in a respectable eight under par.
Prior to that, Rahm had pushed Brian Harman closest at the Open, adding another Major runner-up finish to his CV in a season which has seen him claim the Masters for the first time.
Olympia Fields, an exacting test of tee-to-green golf, plays like a Major championship course with Rahm reaching four under in 2020 then making a 66-foot birdie putt to see off Dustin Johnson in a play-off in what was tellingly a battle of two of the best drivers in the sport.
It has been a magnificent year for Rahm and a BMW win would put him in the driving seat for next week's Tour Championship, where the FedEx leader starts at -10.
Consistent Hovland tailormade for Olympia test
Another magnificent driver of the ball can make his mark this week with Viktor Hovland taken to win a FedEx Cup play-off event for the first time.
The 25-year-old has contended for each Major this season, finishing no worse than 19th, while he claimed the Memorial Tournament in June.
He was 40th on course debut as a Tour rookie and will expect to better that effort.
Young could make belated PGA Tour breakthrough
Cameron Young has had a mixed season but he finished eighth at the Open and there was a lot to like about his three-under 67 in the final round of last week's St Jude Championship where he produced one of the best tee-to-green performances in the field.
Young is a serious talent who should enjoy a layout which puts a premium on long, straight driving.
