Aston Villa will hope to strengthen their grip on fourth spot when they entertain Bournemouth in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

The Villans reached the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League on Thursday despite losing 2-1 to Lille in France.

Unai Emery's side managed to win the two-legged tie on penalties after the clash finished 3-3 on aggregate, thanks to some more heroics from goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, but while the mood will be positive in the Villa dressing room, they have to endure another short turnaround as the Cherries come to town.

Bournemouth were last in action last weekend, and they secured a 2-2 draw against Manchester United to boost their chances of finishing in the top 10.

Team news

Defender Clement Lenglet will hope to start having sat on the bench for the clash with Lille after picking up a knock, while Matty Cash should be fit to start after shaking off an injury that he sustained on international duty.

Emery is still without long-term absentees Boubacar Kamara, Emi Buendia, Tyrone Mings, Jacob Ramsey and Alex Moreno.

Bournemouth coach Andoni Iraola will hope to recall Chris Mepham following a recent illness, but winger Luis Sinisterra is likely to miss out after suffering a hamstring injury last week.

Antoine Semenyo and Tyler Adams are expected to return at the end of the month, while Marcus Tavernier could miss the rest of the campaign due to a muscle problem.

Aston Villa have only lost one of their last five games in the Premier League, although they have lost three of their last six at home.

Emery's side have scored in eight consecutive matches in all competitions, while 13 of their last 17 games have contained at least three goals.

The reverse meeting between the two sides finished 2-2 at the Vitality Stadium in December, while there have been at least three goals in the nine of the previous 12 games between the two clubs.

Bournemouth have scored in seven consecutive matches in the Premier League, finding the back of the net on 14 occasions, while away from home, they have netted in 12 successive fixtures.

Prediction

Villa's recent home form suggests they will be tough to beat this weekend, but they may struggle to keep Bournemouth at bay.

Emery's side will be more fatigued after their European exploits, and while they should be able to score multiple goals past the Cherries' weak defence, Iraola's side are just as likely to find the net themselves.

Bournemouth have only kept three clean sheets in their last 15 Premier League games, and both teams have the firepower to rack up the goals.

Ollie Watkins has scored 19 Premier League goals this season, while Bournemouth's Dominic Solanke has netted 17 times, and this could be an end-to-end battle from start to finish.
