- Ascot King George day: Best bet, each-way selection and treble
- Recommended bets include:
-
Auguste Rodin to win the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Qipco Stakes
-
Orazio each-way in the Moet & Chandon International Stakes

The second day of Ascot’s big midsummer meeting is on Saturday and with it comes one of the best races of the summer, the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Qipco Stakes.

That race gets the feature slot on the card (15:40) and is a fascinating clash between the best middle-distance older horses in Europe. The Moet & Chandon International Stakes (15:00) is the other feature, while there are two further Group races and a Listed event.

Here is everything you need to know for King George day, including the best bets.

Day 2 - Key info

First race: 13:15 British EBF Crocker Bulteel 'Confined' Maiden Stakes

Feature race: 15:40 King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Qipco Stakes

The King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Qipco Stakes (15:40), or more commonly known as the King George, is one of the best races of the entire season and has been won by top-class performers like Shergar, Galileo and Montjeu in the past.

The market for the race this year is headed by last year’s Derby winner Auguste Rodin, who can be hit-and-miss but was right back to his best when landing the Prince of Wales’s Stakes at this course last time. It will take a smart performance to beat him if he is in the same form.

The Moet & Chandon International Stakes (15:00) is one in a series of big races over the straight seven-furlong course at Ascot throughout the season. Second only in prestige to the Victoria Cup at the same course in May, the International is one of the biggest handicaps of the season and will see a big field hurtle home.

Best bet of the day

Auguste Rodin to win the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Qipco Stakes (15:40) @ 11/8

This looks like a good opportunity for Auguste Rodin to prove himself an outstanding performer. Last year’s Derby winner had questions to answer following his defeat behind White Birch at the Curragh on his seasonal reappearance, but he put those to bed last time.

That was in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes at this course and he put in an impressive display to win as he liked from a top-class field. That form should be good enough.

Quick conditions suit Auguste Rodin well and, if he is at his best, he should win.

Best each-way bet of the day

Orazio in the in the Moet & Chandon International Stakes (15:00) @ 6/1

Orazio looks to have a great chance given the step up to 7f on the back of his third in the Wokingham
Orazio looks to have a great chance given the step up to 7f on the back of his third in the Wokingham

There were many eyecatchers at Royal Ascot last month, but one of the biggest was Orazio. He got caught behind and was a long way off the pace in the Wokingham over 6f, but made relentless headway in the closing stages to be a nearest-at-the-finish third.

That strongly hinted that he might be suited by going up to 7f, a trip that he has never tried before, and he gets the chance to prove it will work the oracle for the first time in this event.

Provided the longer distance brings the improvement expected, Orazio will have a huge chance of landing a second victory at this course off a mark 10lb higher than for his last.

Day 2 acca

Everybody loves an Ascot accumulator and here we point you in the direction of one on King George day. Our treble pays 156/1 with LiveScore Bet.

Bet 1: Back Auguste Rodin to win the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Qipco Stakes (15:40) @ 11/8

This four-year-old has an opportunity to stamp himself as the best middle-distance champion in Europe and he is fully expected to take his chance, after an easy victory here last time.

Bet 2: Orazio to win the Moet & Chandon International Stakes (15:00) @ 6/1

Many observers thought that Orazio was unlucky not to win the Wokingham at Royal Ascot last month, when he came from a near-impossible position for third. The step up to 7f is certain to suit him here and there should be plenty more improvement forthcoming.

Bet 3: Definitive to win the Sodexo Live! Princess Margaret Stakes (13:50) @ 17/2

This 130,000gns purchase was an impressive winner of a maiden at Haydock on her debut and is certain to improve for that initial experience. There aren’t many better trainers of a sprinting juvenile than Clive Cox and he has another good one on his hands with this filly.
