Former Tranmere striker Andy Cook returned to haunt his old club with a brace as Bradford made it two wins on the bounce with a 2-0 League Two victory at Prenton Park that moves them into the play-off places.

Both sides were limited to shots from distance in the early exchanges with Cameron Norman and Kieron Morris firing over for Rovers and Jamie Walker doing likewise for the visitors.

But it was ex-Tranmere man Cook, who broke the deadlock after 23 minutes, finding the bottom corner from the edge of the area for his sixth goal of the season.

The home side looked to respond quickly with Omari Patrick firing straight at Bradford goalkeeper Sam Walker, while Tom Davies headed the ball narrowly wide just before half-time.

Tranmere threatened after the break with Connor Jennings and Lee O’Connor coming close, while at the other end, Calum Kavanagh’s fierce shot stung the palms of Luke McGee.

The points were secured for the Bantams in the 72nd minute when Cook raced onto a Kavanagh pass to slot home his second of the game and seventh of the campaign in front of the jubilant travelling support.
