Amy Rodgers has issued a rallying call to her Bristol City team-mates ahead of today's trip to Tottenham.

The midfielder, 23, was in the starting line-up as the Robins lost their first match back in the Women's Super League 4-2 at home to Leicester last Sunday.

She is not expecting any easy games back in the top flight but believes Lauren Smith's side can kick off a season to remember by taking three points from Spurs.

Speaking exclusively to LiveScore, Rodgers said: "If we can get the win this weekend, it would be great for our momentum.

"The quicker we can get that momentum going, the better. Momentum is a funny thing in football — it swings so quickly.

"Whether it's in a game or a season, I think all it takes is one good performance to swing it completely. And in the same breath, one very bad performance can quickly turn it the other way.

"If it doesn't work out [against Spurs] we can't panic.

"It's important to keep that steady head, whether we win or lose, ride the lows and the highs and try to stay consistent."

Rodgers played for Liverpool between 2017-2021, making more than 50 appearances in all competitions and winning the Fans' Player of the Year and Young Player of the Season awards along the way.

She joined the Robins from London City Lionesses during the summer and is excited to bring experience and quality to her new home in the West Country.

Rodgers added "My aim is to contribute as much to the team as I can and bring a bit of experience.

"I'll always do my best for the team and try and contribute in that way. It's great that I've been in this league before but it's also changed so much since I was last in it.

"I'll just do whatever I can to help them succeed.

"We're really excited to kick things off. Last weekend wasn't the ideal result for us but we're excited to learn quickly and improve."

Bouncing back

Despite going ahead against Leicester, Smith's side fell to a 4-2 defeat at Ashton Gate in Bristol City's first WSL game since 2021.

It was not the dream start Rodgers hoped for but the Robins' No8 remains upbeat.

She said: "You always have to take the positives out of games. When you lose, it's easy to be negative.

"Picking out the good things is always important to build confidence and try to get some momentum.

"Scoring two goals is a big positive in our first game back in the WSL. We don't want to concede four but that's happened now.

"It's just about how quickly we can learn from the mistakes and put them right."

Spurs will provide another tough test for the Robins, despite their 2-1 defeat to Chelsea on the opening day.

Rodgers has kept an eye on the opposition and believes Bristol must work hard to limit the home side's chances.

She added: "I watched the game against Chelsea and thought they looked very good at times.

"They created really good chances, so I think limiting them is going to be really important. It's going to be a tough game but we're ready for it."
