It is no surprise to see that Iga Swiatek is still topping the Grand Slam markets and the Polish world No1 is 12/5 with LiveScore Bet to make it four major singles title wins in the last seven events at the US Open, where she will defend the crown she won for the first time last year.

However, while the first three Slams of the year saw Swiatek, Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka and last year’s Wimbledon heroine Elena Rybakina dominate the betting, in the final major of the season at Flushing Meadows in New York City, great American hope Cori Gauff joins those three market leaders following hard-court title triumphs in Washington DC and Cincinnati.

Swiatek could face a stern title defence in New York

With three Grand Slam singles titles collected in her last six major outings, Swiatek has shown she is still the one to beat in the biggest tournaments of all.

However, there is a feeling that the chasing pack may be catching up with the brilliant 22-year-old.

The Pole is top seed for her first US Open title defence, but Swiatek may have to defeat all three of her chief market rivals — Gauff, Rybakina and Sabalenka — if she is to keep hold of the trophy in the coming fortnight.

Sabalenka, who is second in LiveScore Bet’s outright betting at 5/1, has been done most favours by the draw — she is in the bottom half while the other three market leaders are all in the top section.

And even if Swiatek was to emerge victorious against Gauff and Rybakina, the Pole could still find the tenacious Sabalenka, who has found another level to her game this year, difficult to pass.

Red-hot Gauff may be chief among the Big Apple challengers

Sabalenka and Rybakina could threaten Swiatek’s hopes of retaining her US Open title this year, but of the market leaders, Gauff could possibly be the favourite’s chief threat now the penny looks to have dropped on hard courts in her homeland.

Gauff is 7/1 with LiveScore Bet to ditch her tag of Grand Slam singles maiden following her recent brace of big hard-court tournament wins and the oddsmakers are savvy enough to know that the Floridian could be a major player in the Big Apple now that the confidence in her game is building.

Montreal champion Jessica Pegula, Karolina Muchova and three-time Slam finalist Ons Jabeur are also held in high regard.

But Gauff, one of the most talented youngsters in tennis history, could potentially pose the biggest threat to the WTA’s big three from this point on.

Prediction

Madison Keys is a previous US Open finalist and looks a big price to repeat that feat this year

Now that she is playing well enough to go deep in Slams and contest them with greater confidence, Gauff is worth a bet for the title, even at single figures.

The proximity of highly regarded youngster Mirra Andreeva to Gauff in the draw is a concern, but if the American is ready to win a first Slam singles title, as the betting suggests, then she should be up to dealing with that sort of early threat.

Gauff’s potential is unmatched and now that fewer errors are emanating from her forehand, which remains a serious weapon, she looks capable of beating any opponent.

For a second bet, on an outsider with claims, it is worth taking a chance on Gauff’s compatriot Madison Keys at 50/1 with LiveScore Bet

Keys looks back to somewhere near her best after injury problems and she made the US Open final in 2017 when playing second fiddle to Sloane Stephens.
