- Wales have won one of their last six European Championship away qualifiers
- Recommended bet: Turkey to win and both teams to score

After a 4-2 humbling on home soil at the hands of Armenia, things do not get any easier for Wales as they travel to Samsun Stadium on Monday night to face Turkey.

Wales took the lead against Armenia in their Euro 2024 qualifier in Cardiff thanks to Leeds United winger Dan James, but the hosts’ fortunes turned on a Friday night to forget for Welsh fans in the capital.

Manager Robert Page will be looking for a response after the Armenia defeat but it certainly will not be easy as they travel to Tekkekoy, to face a Turkey side that have been showing signs of real progress of late.

Team news

Hakan Calhanoglu has made 77 appearances for Turkey

Turkey captain Hakan Calhanoglu was able to play the entire 90 minutes of his country’s 3-2 win in Latvia last time out, despite going into the game on the back of a Champions League final defeat to Manchester City.

Publicidad

The Inter star came through the game unscathed and is set to start in what should be a pretty settled Turkey lineup.

As for Wales, the visitors will have to do without striker Kieffer Moore following his red card for violent conduct in the defeat to Armenia.

It means Page will have to reshuffle his pack in attack, with Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson pushing for a starting role against the Turks.

The stats

Turkey have been on a solid run of form, with four wins in their last five outings and their only loss in that time coming against a strong Croatia side.

All of Turkey’s last four wins have seen both teams score in the game.

Publicidad

The Turks have only lost two of their last 10 games on home soil ahead of the arrival of Wales on Monday.

Wales have had a disappointing record on the road, winning just one of their last six European Championship away qualifiers.

With just one win in their last 11 outings, the pressure is starting to mount on Page to turn things around.

Prediction

These are two teams in contrasting form going into this game and Turkey have the quality and momentum to come out on top on home soil.

Wales do have their attacking threats with the likes of James and Johnson, so the visitors might well have their moments in this clash.

All of Turkey’s last four wins have seen both teams score in the game and that trend might well continue at Samsun Stadium on Monday night.
