Travis Head credited his "amazing" partnership with Marnus Labuschagne as the key to Australia's stunning World Cup final victory over India.

The hosts had won 10 matches from 10 in this competition and an expectant Ahmedabad sell-out arrived to celebrate their team's seemingly-inevitable victory.

But Pat Cummins' side bowled superbly to restrict Rohit Sharma's outfit to 240 before Head took over, smashing 137 as he put on 192 with Labuschagne to seal the deal.

The Player of the Match said: "What an amazing day.

"Marnus played exceptionally. It's awesome to bat with him, he soaked up all the pressure.

"The way Mitch [Marsh] came out and took the game on set the tone. That was the energy we wanted.

"The wicket got better as the day went on. It's nice to be a part of it."

Head's contribution was not just limited to the bat after he took a stunning catch to dismiss India's danger man Rohit Sharma in the first innings.

And the 29-year-old hailed his side's ability to seize the moment as the key to their famous win.

He said: "He [Rohit] is probably the unluckiest man in the world!

"I couldn't have imagined hitting a century and I couldn't have imagined holding onto that one.

"You want to look after your team-mates and you want to contribute in front of a full house under pressure."

The victory delivers Australia's sixth ODI World Cup and leaves a devastated India stuck on just two titles.

It completes a remarkable 2023 in which Cummins' team have also won the World Test Championship and retained the Ashes.
