Manchester United want to bring Memphis Depay back to Old Trafford.

Despite being at the World Cup with the Netherlands, the forward is deemed surplus to requirements at Barcelona just 18 months after arriving from Lyon.

Sport in Spain claim United have been closely monitoring Depay’s situation at the Camp Nou with a view to re-signing him.

The 28-year-old ace was an expensive failure during his first spell in Manchester, scoring seven goals in 53 games after joining for £31million from PSV Eindhoven in the summer of 2015.

Depay, who came off the bench as his country beat Senegal 2-0 on Monday, was sold to Lyon 18 months later but Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure means there is now space in Erik ten Hag's squad for another striker.

Whether or not someone who previously struggled in the Premier League and has made only three appearances for Barca this term is the sort of player Ten Hag wants remains to be seen.

But the deal would certainly be financially attractive, with the Spanish giants reportedly williing to let Depay move for free if he agrees to rip up the rest of his contract.

The same report also highlights Barcelona's interest in United's Portuguese right-back Diogo Dalot, who has been one of Ten Hag’s early success stories at Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, another Spanish outlet, Fichajes, believe Bayer Leverkusen forward Moussa Diaby is also on the Red Devils' radar.
