Arsenal are plotting a January swoop for Evan Ndicka to beef up the centre of their defence.

William Saliba has thrived alongside Gabriel this season after finally getting his chance to impress but Mikel Arteta has limited back-up options.

And The Evening Standard claim Ndicka is their No1 target as the Gunners want a left-sided centre-back having missed out on Lisandro Martinez and Calvin Bassey.

France Under-21s star Ndicka is out of contract at the end of the season and current club Eintracht Frankfurt are reportedly hopeful he will sign a new deal.

But should the towering defender decide he wants a new challenge, the Gunners believe they can tempt the Bundesliga outfit into a January sale to avoid losing him for nothing.

Ndicka played in both Champions League clashes against Tottenham this season, including a 0-0 stalemate in Germany earlier this month.

He rose through the youth ranks with Auxerre in his homeland before moving to Frankfurt in 2018, where he has gone on to rack up over 150 first-team appearances.

Arsenal have started the season superbly with 13 wins out of 14 in all competitions and Arteta looks set to be backed in the market in order to keep up the momentum.
