Sheffield Wednesday have appointed former Germany assistant coach Danny Rohl as their new boss.

Rohl, 34, becomes the youngest manager in the Football League, replacing Xisco Munoz who was sacked earlier this month.

A statement read: "Sheffield Wednesday are delighted to announce the appointment of Danny Rohl as our new manager.

"The renowned German coach takes over as Owls boss with immediate effect, with an impressive career in his locker to date.

"The 34-year-old has held assistant manager positions with European giants Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig, Southampton and the German national team.

"Rohl's glittering coaching career now leads to his first managerial role in S6.

"Welcome to Wednesday, Danny!"

The Owls lie bottom of the Championship with three points from 11 games ahead of next Saturday's trip to Watford.

German tactician Rohl came through the managerial ranks at RB Leipzig under Ralph Hasenhuttl before moving to work with the Austrian at Southampton.

He later formed part of Hansi Flick's coaching staff at both Bayern Munich and the German national team.

Rohl is the 11th permanent appointment at Hillsborough in the last 12 years.

Xisco took over from Darren Moore, who guided the club back to the Championship, over the summer but failed to build on his predecessor's work.

The appointment of Rohl is something of a gamble as the Owls look to avoid dropping into League One.
