Rangers to win and both teams to score

Rangers have hardly stormed out of the blocks this season but the Light Blues can build on their first win of the campaign when they host Dynamo Kyiv in the third qualifying round of the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Beating Motherwell 2-1 in the Scottish Premiership over the weekend, the Gers revert back to their European mission as they take a 1-1 draw into their second-leg clash with Dynamo.

Cyriel Dessers was the hero for Rangers with that 90th-minute equaliser in the first leg in Poland and another entertaining encounter awaits when these sides meet again this week in Glasgow.

Cyriel Dessers scored what could be a crucial equaliser in the first leg

Rangers boss Philippe Clement has no fresh injury concerns after the weekend’s victory over Mothwell at Ibrox.

Nicolas Raskin and Oscar Cortes missed out on that win due to injury and Tuesday's game comes too soon for the pair.

Ianis Hagi and Todd Cantwell are being overlooked as the duo seek moves away from the club, while Jose Cifuentes is on the verge of moving to Aris Thessaloniki on a season-long loan deal.

In-form striker Dessers looks set to start up front again, while new arrivals Vaclav Cerny and Connor Barron are pushing to feature.

As for Dynamo Kyiv, there are no new injuries for their manager Oleksandr Shovkovskyi to worry about either and a similar starting lineup is expected to the one that faced Rangers in the first leg.

Andriy Yarmolenko is again set to captain the side, with Vladyslav Vanat expected to join him up front.

The stats

Both teams have scored in all of Rangers’ last six games in the Champions League.

Publicidad

In Rangers’ last six home games in the competition, both teams scored in five of them, with only Serie A giants Napoli leaving Ibrox with a clean sheet back in 2022.

The Lights Blues do have a strong recent home record, as the Old Firm outfit are unbeaten in their last six games in all competitions as the designated home side, with five wins and a draw against rivals Celtic in that time.

Dynamo Kyiv have won three of their last four away games in the Champions League but did require extra-time in two of those matches to secure the victory.

Prediction

Considering Rangers’ recent home record with no defeats in their last six games, a victory for the hosts looks to be the way to go in this one even if they are playing Tuesday's match at Hampden rather than Ibrox.

The Light Blues are always tough to beat in Glasgow and they should have enough to continue their winning record..

However, do not expect Rangers to do things the easy way and given their record in European games of late, it would be little surprise to see Dynamo get on the scoresheet on Tuesday night.
