London rivals QPR and Millwall have found wins hard to come by in the Championship so far this season as they prepare to meet at Loftus Road on Saturday.

Both teams have registered a solitary victory each from their opening five league games, but while QPR have also lost just once, Millwall's tally of three defeats leaves them sitting just a point above the relegation zone at this early stage of the campaign.

Team news

QPR's only major injury concern surrounds attacking midfielder Ilias Chair, who is not expected to return from a back issue until the end of the month.

Millwall head coach Neil Harris will be unable to call upon Josh Coburn for Saturday's game after the Middlesbrough loanee sustained a calf issue in last weekend's defeat to Luton that is expected to keep him out of action for six to eight weeks.

Defender Jake Cooper picked up a similar injury in that match and is also likely to miss out, while Billy Mitchell remains sidelined with a hip problem.

Wins have been hard to come by for Neil Harris and Millwall at the start of the season

The stats

QPR's last two victories over Millwall have been by a 2-0 scoreline, including last season's corresponding fixture when goals in either half from Chair and Sinclair Armstrong were enough to seal the win.

Four of the last five meetings between these two sides have finished 2-0 one way or another, with the exception in that sequence being Millwall's 2-1 success at Loftus Road in February 2023.

Publicidad

Both of QPR's victories this season — one in the league and one in the cup — have seen them score exactly two goals.

Millwall have only won on one of their last 14 visits to QPR, a run that dates back to 1989.

The Lions have failed to score in three of their last four matches in all competitions.

Prediction

Since losing to current Championship leaders West Brom on the opening weekend of the season, QPR have put together a four-match unbeaten run in the league and although they have struggled to turn draws into wins, they will fancy their chances of getting the better of London rivals Millwall.

Millwall have only won one of their last five matches across all competitions and have failed to score in three of their previous four, with their lack of goals not being helped by the injury picked up by forward Coburn last weekend.

QPR were 2-0 winners in this fixture last season — a familiar scoreline in recent meetings between these sides — and head coach Marti Cifuentes will expect his side to pick up a similar kind of result on Saturday.

While both these teams have only won once in the league this season, their form and trajectory appears to be moving in opposite directions, so expect QPR to pick up a relatively routine success, perhaps by a 2-0 scoreline once again.
