Preston vs Rotherham predictions: Both teams to net in North End win
- Nine of the last ten Championship meetings between these sides have seen both teams find the net
- Rotherham have lost 24 of their 38 league games this term
- Recommended bet: Preston and both teams to score
Preston are five points behind Norwich, who occupy the final Championship play-off spot, although they do have a game in hand on their rivals for a top-six finish.
North End have been in solid form recently, but will likely need to improve if they are to come out on top of a congested battle for a spot in the play-offs and they can afford to make no mistakes against lowly Rotherham.
Team news
Brad Potts and Milutin Osmajic both sustained injuries for Preston in their last clash with Plymouth and could be replaced by Layton Stewart and Emil Riis for this match-up.
Robbie Brady may also have to settle for a spot on the bench after starting both of Ireland’s friendlies in the international break.
The Millers hope to be boosted by having Tyler Blackett, Cohen Bramall and Shane Ferguson all available for selection at Deepdale.
The stats
Rotherham have struggled this season but their record on the road makes even worse reading.
The Millers have taken just four points from a possible 57 on their travels this term and, while a 0-0 draw with Huddersfield last time out did bring to an end a run of nine defeats in a row, there has still been little to smile about for the visitors.
Preston have won five of their last eight games and have been victorious in nine of their 19 league outings at Deepdale this season.
Prediction
Rotherham’s struggles recently have been evident and their stay in the Championship is set to come to an end shortly.
Leam Richardson’s men will be looking to save face during the run in however and would ideally improve their woeful away form, they have lost 15 of their 19 away games.
Preston have been solid at home by contrast and should be able to secure all three points, although they may struggle to keep a clean sheet.
North End’s 54 goals conceded is the joint-worst in the top half of the table and both teams have found the net in nine of the last 10 meetings between these two teams at this level.
Goals have been in short supply for the visitors recently, but the chance to freshen up over the international break may well have suited them and they are fancied to find the net at Deepdale, albeit in defeat.
