Leicester made a blistering start to the Championship season, winning 13 of their first 14 matches, but they had to endure a few wobbles before clinching automatic promotion on Friday.

QPR's 4-0 win over Leeds ensured that the Foxes will be back in the Premier League next season while title rivals Ipswich also dropped points in Saturday's 3-3 draw at Hull.

Those results mean Leicester can clinch the title with a victory at Preston, who also made a strong start to the season but have lost their last three matches without scoring a goal.

Team news

Preston midfielder Mads Frokjaer-Jensen should start and young striker Layton Stewart could get a chance up front although Emil Riis, Milutin Osmajic and Will Keane are also attacking options.

Publicidad

Ali McCann, Ben Whiteman and Brad Potts remain sidelined.

Leicester boss Enzo Maresca has no fresh injury concerns so he could name the same team who started the 5-0 rout of Southampton.

Ricardo Pereira and Hamza Choudhury are competing for a start at right-back.

The stats

Ryan Lowe's Preston have seen their play-off hopes ended by a goal drought, having failed to score in five of their last six games

Preston have failed to score in five of their last six Championship games.

Publicidad

North End have lost four of their last six matches.

Five of Preston's last 10 league games were goalless at half-time.

Leicester have scored 54 of their 86 league goals in the second half of matches.

The Foxes have lost their last three away games by a 1-0 scoreline.

Only four of Leicester's 44 league fixtures this season have ended in draws.

Prediction

Leeds, Ipswich and Southampton have all threatened to derail Leicester's promotion challenge at points during an eventful season but the Foxes have claimed a couple of crucial wins in their last two games.

They beat play-off hopefuls West Brom 2-1 before a 5-0 drubbing of the Saints and they are guaranteed a top-two finish going into Monday's trip to Preston.

The pressure is off for Leicester but Maresca will want his side to go up as champions and they can seal the title with a game to spare if they win at Deepdale.

Leicester's last four victories have come at home, however, and their last four away results were a 2-2 draw at Hull followed by 1-0 defeats at Bristol City, Millwall and Plymouth.

They may have to be patient before breaking down Preston, who are stumbling towards the finish line after a solid campaign.

Publicidad

North End were beaten 3-0 in October's reverse fixture although that contest was goalless until the 60th minute and the Tie/Leicester selection looks a good bet in the Half Time/Full Time market.

Preston have failed to score in five of their last six league fixtures, losing four of them, but they may be able to stand firm until half-time against a Leicester side who have achieved their primary goal of promotion.
