Blackburn have been one of the surprise packages in the Championship this season but they need to bounce back from their first defeat of the campaign when they head to Plymouth on Saturday.

The Pilgrims have struggled with inconsistency so far but have shown they are no pushover by seeing off both high-flying Sunderland and relegated Luton at Home Park.

Team news

The Pilgrims have no fresh injury concerns so manager Wayne Rooney could keep faith with the team that lost 1-0 at Burnley on Tuesday.

Rovers boss John Eustace has a fully fit squad but Owen Beck is still unavailable after his red card at Preston.

The stats

Wayne Rooney is still adjusting to life as Plymouth manager

Five of Plymouth’s last seven games have featured fewer than three goals.

The Pilgrims have won four of their last six home matches.

Both teams have scored in just four of Plymouth’s last 12 matches at Home Park.

Blackburn have kept a clean sheet in three of their last four games.

Publicidad

Rovers have suffered just two defeats in their last nine league away outings.

Prediction

Blackburn will not have been at the top of many people’s list to be in the top six after eight Championship games, but Rovers have shown some promise early on and their midweek defeat at Coventry was their first of the league campaign.

It was always going to be tough to cope with the loss of last season’s second-tier top goalscorer Sammie Szmodics, but the Lancashire outfit have done a good job and there have been signs that they have their defensive game in order too as their loss at the CBS Arena was preceded by three successive clean sheets.

It is a long trip to Plymouth and Sunderland and Luton have already left Home Park empty handed this term, but there are signs that the Pilgrims are still getting to grips with life under Wayne Rooney, despite those encouraging home successes.

Those two wins are the only occasions in their last 10 league outings that Argyle have scored more than one goal, despite Rooney’s team receiving acclaim from some quarters for their attacking football they have been generating under the former BIrmingham and Derby manager’s stewardship.

Rovers’ midweek defeat was only the ninth occasion that they have conceded more than once in their last 10 Championship away games and as Rovers will not need reminding that they need to get their defending back on track, they could be a lot tighter in Devon so do not expect many goals in Saturday’s clash.
