Over 3.5 goals

Newcastle are one of the most in-form teams in the country at present, winning eight games in a row and they can more than play their part in a high-scoring affair when they host Wolves on Wednesday.

The visitors have turned things around under new manager Vitor Pereira and with the return of their talisman Matheus Cunha from suspension, they should be able to contribute to an entertaining game.

Team news

Newcastle will be without Nick Pope, Emil Krafth, Callum Wilson and Jamal Lascelles due to injury.

Alexander Isak, Sven Botman and Joe Willock should be able to shake off injuries to feature for the Magpies.

Publicidad

Cunha returns from suspension for Wolves but they are likely to be without Craig Dawson, Nelson Semedo and Toti Gomes while Mario Lemina is doubtful due to illness.

Sasa Kalajdzic, Enso Gonzalez, Boubacar Traore and Yerson Mosquera are all long-term absentees.

The stats

Alexander Isak has been in stunning scoring form for Newcastle

Newcastle have won eight games in a row in all competitions, beating the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester United and Aston Villa during this run.

The Magpies have kept clean sheets in five of their last eight matches and scored 28 goals in their last 10 fixtures in all competitions.

Publicidad

Sweden international Alexander Isak has been in red-hot form, netting 10 times in his last nine appearances.

Both teams have scored in 17 of Wolves’ 23 games in all competitions.

Prediction

Newcastle missed out on a European spot last season and struggled with consistency to begin this campaign, but they have been in scintillating form since a 4-2 loss to Brentford in early December and are on the cusp of the Champions League places.

Eddie Howe rotated his side for their weekend FA Cup win over Bromley and while they were somewhat workmanlike in that success, the difference their usual starters made in the second half was noticeable.

They should be back at nearly full strength for the midweek visit of Wolves, who boast the leakiest defence in the division with 45 goals conceded in 20 matches.

Six of Wolves’ 10 away games in the league have gone over 3.5 goals and there is every chance that statistic can be added to, especially as talisman Cunha will be back for them.
