Mikel Arteta could not hide his delight after Arsenal beat Manchester City to win the 2023 Community Shield.

The Gunners were staring down the barrel of another defeat to the Premier League champions after Cole Palmer's stunning opener on 77 minutes.

But Arsenal managed to level things up at Wembley in the 101st minute thanks to a goal from substitute Leandro Trossard.

The Belgian's strike, which deflected in off Manuel Akanji, sent the game to a penalty shootout, where Arsenal emerged victorious 4-1 to secure their 17th Community Shield title.

Kevin De Bruyne and Rodri both missed from 12 yards, while Fabio Vieira scored the decisive spot kick for the Gunners.

On the important victory and another piece of silverware added to the collection, Arteta said: "It feels great.

"I don't think it gets much better than winning a trophy at Wembley against the best team in the world in the way that we did it."

Arteta also reserved praise for goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, who brilliantly saved Rodri's penalty to set the victory up for his side.

The Spaniard added: "He [Ramsdale] was great. We practice penalties a lot on purpose in pre-season to be ready for this just in case.

"We went through disappointment against Manchester United, for example, and we didn't stop any of that.

"That was the learning curve that sometimes is needed to get the right results at the end. I think he was superb."

Rule changes

One of the features of the Community Shield was the first showing of the new rule changes which aim to clamp down on unacceptable behaviour from managers.

Arteta was booked by referee Stuart Atwell in the first half after gesturing for a yellow card following a foul by City midfielder Rodri on Kai Havertz.

The Arsenal boss said: "I cannot change my behaviour in three days. I try my best and understand the rules.

"We can get frustrated because sometimes we don't know what part of the technical area we're in.

"But it's fine, we will adapt."
