Matilda Vinberg hopes her maiden Tottenham goal will earn her more playing time after Robert Vilahamn's side beat Leicester 1-0.

The Sweden international joined Spurs on a two-and-a-half-year deal in January and was handed her first Women's Super League start against the Foxes.

It took less than two minutes for her to make an impact at Brisbane Road, tapping home Jessica Naz's cross.

Vinberg, 21, said: "It's amazing. A relief to finally score my first goal and to take the opportunity to show Robert, the team and the supporters it's important to have playing time and to start my first game for Spurs.

"It's a special feeling. It was tough in the beginning to settle in the team, to find a place and everything around it, but now it's starting to feel much, much better.

"The girls have been amazing. They're really very kind."

The hosts dominated the opening 20 minutes but Leicester had settled in by the halfway point and held the possession advantage after the break, when Jutta Rantala almost levelled with an effort that hit the underside of the bar.

Foxes assistant boss Jennifer Foster felt her side should have come away with more but agreed the game could still provide valuable lessons for when the teams meet again in next month's FA Cup semi-final at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Foster, who oversaw today's meeting alongside coach Stephen Kirby, said: "It's extremely disappointing because I think it was a missed opportunity to get three points, or at least something from the game.

"We grew into the game after the first 20 minutes but for me the first 20 weren't good enough. They weren't what we expect from a Leicester team.

"After that we progressed and had chances but we just didn't take them.

"Each game is a learning curve and I also think there's a lot we can take in terms of what they offered and what we didn't offer. I think it's a good assessment.

"We've still got games to come before that [semi-final] but there's a lot to take and a lot to digest from this game."
