Che Adams scored twice as Southampton came from behind to beat Leicester 2-1 at the King Power Stadium and earn their first win in nine.

James Maddison put the Foxes in front early into the second half, bending a fantastic free-kick into the bottom corner. 

But the Saints were soon level as summer signing Armel Bella-Kotchap held off his marker and cushioned a first-time pass into Adams, who finished coolly.

The Southampton striker completed the turnaround with six minutes remaining, producing a vicious volley from James Ward-Prowse's right-wing cross to earn the visitors a crucial victory.

Adams, who was born in Leicester, expressed his delight at scoring in his hometown.

He said: "It is great to get on the scoresheet and help the boys to three points. I could have got three today so that is what has annoyed me the most. 

"Mo [Mohamed Elyounoussi] told me to pass to him but no chance I was doing that. 

"What the manager has instilled in us is to never give up and keep believing. We did that today. First half was tough, in tough conditions, but we stuck in there and got the points. 

"I have played here many times before. None of my family were here today but I am delighted to score here."

Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers voiced his concerns about how his side play after taking the lead in games.

He said: "We've been here the last time, 2-0 up and we stopped taking the ball and gave the initiative to them [in the 2-2 draw with Brentford on the opening day]. 

"We started the game very well — with energy, intensity, passing, movement. We deserved to go in front and then we stopped. You have to be able to manage the game. We sunk deeper and they gained confidence after scoring out of nothing. 

"It was a very frustrating game. The players' attitude and energy was what you'd want. Once we went in front we did what we have been doing. It's just constant work. 

"It was important for us today that we managed the ball when we took the lead but we didn't do that. We looked nervous. That's a little bit of desperation in wanting to get the result. 

"The players are really good lads. We'll go away and look to improve."

Leicester had lost only one of their previous 10 Premier League home games before today's defeat (won five, drawn four). It is also the first time they have scored first at home and lost in the top flight since January.

Southampton have recorded a league win on the road for the first time in nine games (drawn three, lost five before today), with each of their previous three wins in the competition having come at St Mary's.

Since Rodgers' first Premier League game in charge of the Foxes in March 2019, they have scored and conceded in the same league game more often than any other side (75).

Only Southampton (32) have dropped more points from winning positions in the Premier League than Leicester (26) since the start of the 2021-22 campaign, including five points in their first two home league games this term.

Adams scored only his second brace in the top flight, doing so previously against Sheffield United in July 2020.

The average age of Southampton's starting line-up today (23y 238d) was their youngest ever fielded in the Premier League. It's the youngest in the competition since Manchester United (22y 284d) against Crystal Palace in May 2017.
