Leeds have moved quickly to appoint former RB Leipzig manager Jesse Marsch as their new head coach.

Marsch, 48, takes the reins at Elland Road after Marcelo Bielsa's departure was confirmed yesterday following a run of heavy defeats.

The new Whites boss said: "One of the things I love about this team right now is their commitment.

"No matter how difficult the games have been, to play right until the end, to fight for each other and never stop — this mentality, this mindset, that's it.

"The mentality to fight for the fans and fight for each other, this is what I love."

Director of football Victor Orta added: "We are delighted to welcome Jesse to the club and excited for him to lead us into this new chapter.

"Jesse is someone we identified a number of years ago during his time at Salzburg and we believe his philosophy and style of football aligns with that of the club and will suit the players very well.

"We have a long-term plan and firmly believe he can take Leeds to the next level and are excited for what the future holds."

American Marsch started his coaching career in MLS before working as assistant manager to current Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick at Leipzig during the 2018-19 campaign.

A successful two-year stint as head coach of sister club FC Salzburg followed before Leipzig lured him back to Germany last summer to replace the outgoing Julian Nagelsmann.

But Marsch was axed in December after just five months in charge at the Red Bull Arena.

Leeds have shipped 20 goals in their last five outings and sit just two points above the Premier League relegation zone.

Marsch's first match at the helm of the Yorkshire club will be Saturday's trip to Leicester.
