Jurgen Klopp was convinced his Liverpool side should have had a second penalty in the final moments of their 1-1 draw with Manchester City.

John Stones put City ahead when converting Kevin De Bruyne's well-worked corner in the first half but the Reds hauled themselves level through Alexis Mac Allister's spot kick after 50 minutes, awarded after Ederson hacked down Darwin Nunez.

A thrilling contest ended level but only after VAR reviewed another home penalty appeal in the dying moments, with Jeremy Doku's swinging clearance appearing to have caught Alexis Mac Allister in the chest.

Officials opted to take no further action, though Klopp was convinced the high foot should have been punished.

He said: "It was 100% penalty. They will find an explanation. It was 100% foul in all areas of the pitch and probably a yellow card.

"All the people with iPads around me were saying, 'Wow, clear'. Maybe they can hide behind the phrase it is not clear and obvious.

"It is of course a penalty but we didn't get it and that is fine."

The result sees Arsenal remain top of the Premier League after their 2-1 victory over Brentford on Saturday, thanks to a goal-difference advantage over Liverpool — with City just a point behind in third.

Still, Klopp remains positive and praised the fight his side showed in coming from a goal behind.

He said: "Sensational. First 10 minutes we were in a bit of a rush and Manchester City were directly there.

"The second half was the best we ever played against City, definitely. They hit the post of course, but we should have scored two or three goals. Exceptional football game.

"For me, we proved today the first time 100% we are exactly where we should be. We will fight for it and see what we can get."
