Elliott hails 'selfish' goal

Harvey Elliott believes his impressive solo goal against Germany in the Under-21 European Championships on Wednesday has silenced his doubters.

The Liverpool midfielder registered just one goal and two assists in 32 appearances for the Reds last season.

But Elliott took great satisfaction out of scoring the second in England's 2-0 win — a victory that ensured they took maximum points from the group stage.

The 20-year-old said: "I get criticised a lot for not getting many goals and assists, especially playing in an attacking position.

"It was a great opportunity for me to go out there and be more selfish, in a way. It just opened up nicely for me and I wanted to stay cool, calm and collected and make sure I finished it off.

"Luckily it went in the back of the net."

Lee Carsley's side will play Portugal in the quarter-finals in Kutaisi on Sunday.

"I feel that this club has everything it takes to compete for the highest honours. I want to go to the next level and score goals here for Arsenal.”

Gunners boss Jonas Eidevall said: “I’m really pleased that we have signed Cloe to strengthen our forward line here at Arsenal.

“Cloe is a proven goalscorer and has shown her quality over a number of seasons in two European leagues as well as the Champions League."

The Bantams released a club statement, which read: "Harry Chapman has the full support of everyone at Bradford City AFC, and will continue to train with his teammates as normal throughout pre-season until further notice.

"The club will be making no further comment on the matter at this time."

Chapman made 37 appearances last season, scoring two goals.

Fan protests see off Bayern sponsor

Bayern have ended their partnership with Qatar Airways

Bayern Munich and Qatar Airways have ended their partnership by mutual agreement after protests from the club's supporters.

Fans have displayed banners at matches and voiced their disapproval of a deal which they say sportswashes the nation's human rights record.

The airline's logo appears on the sleeve of the club's playing shirt but that arrangement will finish at the end of June.

Club chairman Jan-Christian Dreesen said: "FC Bayern and Qatar Airways have worked together successfully and learned from each other. I would like to thank Akbar Al Baker, CEO of Qatar Airways, for this."
