Barnes stormer

Eddie Howe says he does not regret the decision to throw Harvey Barnes into a match just hours after the winger signed for Newcastle.

Barnes, 25, completed his switch from relegated Leicester for a fee of around £38million as the Magpies look to cement their standing in the European places again next season.

He has scored 35 Premier League goals and registered 25 assists in total and will replace the outgoing Allan Saint-Maximin, who is set to join the Saudi Pro League.

Howe was delighted with the contributions made by his new man in the 3-3 draw with Aston Villa on Sunday but admits he was debating whether to play him at all.

He said: "I think with Harvey we were umming and ahing about whether to play him tonight.

"It was a long journey yesterday, he hasn't trained with the team yet, but we just thought it would be really good to get his debut and get his journey with Newcastle started.

"I thought he was really bright when he came on but now just looking forward to getting some training ground work with him."

Morgan was on the bench in Brisbane on Saturday as the European champions kicked off their World Cup campaign with a 1-0 win against Haiti.

It was an underwhelming performance from the Lionesses, but that has not dampened the 22-year-old's spirits.

On the World Cup, she said: "I've absolutely loved it so far, it's been so much fun.

"I think it only really hit me when I was stood for the anthems the other day — obviously there's World Cup branding everywhere and there were so many England fans in the crowd — I think it only sunk in then that I was at a World Cup."

Sarina Wiegman's side will face Denmark on Friday and Morgan has given an insight to preparations.

She said: "We'll pick up and refine what we did for the Haiti game. There were some really brilliant passages of play where we were popping it around in midfield.

"We need to be a bit more clinical where we can and take that intensity into the Denmark game."

Jackson in good Nic

Nicolas Jackson scored and grabbed two assists against Brighton in pre-season

Nicolas Jackson claims that Chelsea are planning to do "amazing things" after the summer signing scored against Brighton in pre-season.

The 22-year-old joined from Villarreal on an eight-year deal and has settled in well at the West London club.

The Senegal international also grabbed two assists alongside his goal against the Seagulls, linking up well with Mykhailo Mudryk and Conor Gallagher in the final third.

After the match, he said: "I am very happy, I was saying last week that I wanted to score quickly so I can get that rhythm, and today it happened so I am very glad.

"I don't want to stop. We want to do amazing things in this club and it is just the beginning and we will see what happens.

"I like to link up and I have been learning to run the space so now I am very good at it. I am not perfect in everything but I can do it all.

"He [Mauricio Pochettino] is a fantastic coach, I watched him for many years now and I know he is a massive coach.

"He is one of the best in the world so I am very happy to work with him, and I hope we do amazing things together."

Hislop conscious after collapse

Shaka Hislop is conscious after collapsing on air in Los Angeles

Former West Ham and Newcastle goalkeeper Shaka Hislop is conscious after collapsing on air at the AC Milan vs Real Madrid game on Sunday.

The 54-year-old was working as an analyst for ESPN but fell to the ground pitchside at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.

Dan Thomas, who was presenting alongside Hislop, called for assistance as the channel cut for a commercial break.

Thomas gave an update to the audience at half-time, saying: "My mate, Shaka, not here, but as it stands, it's good news.

"He's conscious. He's talking. I think he's a little embarrassed about it all. He's apologised profusely. Not a man who likes people to make a fuss of him.

"Obviously far too early to make any sort of diagnosis, but the important thing is that Shaka's conscious and we spoke to his family as well, because you imagine seeing that happen live."

Bellingham impresses on debut

Jude Bellingham was a standout performer for Real Madrid as they beat AC Milan in pre-season

Carlo Ancelotti hailed Jude Bellingham's "fantastic" Real Madrid debut as Los Blancos beat AC Milan 3-2 in Los Angeles.

Bellingham jumped at the opportunity to join Madrid this summer and he has so far left no doubt that he is worth the £88.5million that the Spanish giants paid for him.

During the first half against Milan, the Englishman went on a mazy run through the midfield, leaving several players in his wake and he showed more glimpses of his talents throughout the night.

On his performance, Ancelotti said: "It is rare to find a player with this kind of quality. He is only 20, so he can improve. We are lucky to have him in our squad.

"He was fantastic. He has a lot of rhythm, moves well and has quality in finding open spaces.

"He is distinct from our other midfielders and he is going to help us a lot.

"He could play left or right to use his characteristics, but his best position is as a No10, where he has more possibility to get near to the opposition goal."
