Too much, too soon

Michael Beale says that Rangers' Champions League play-off tie with PSV came "too soon" for his team.

The Scottish side lost 5-1 in Eindhoven on Wednesday, going down 7-3 on aggregate as they missed out on a spot in the group stage.

And Beale suggested afterwards that they were not yet up to standard, saying: "For this team, this game came far too soon, that's what's clear.

"Listen, the buck stops with me. I wasn't happy with losing the way that we lost tonight. There were moments in the game that could have gone for us.

"I think this group has got a way to go. It's a new team and the most important thing for our fans and myself is that we get there [again] through our domestic competition."

Royal Antwerp and FC Copenhagen joined PSV in qualifying for the group stage, which will be drawn on Thursday evening.

Tale of the tape

Erling Haaland scored for Manchester City against Sheffield United last weekend

Erling Haaland has revealed that he sleeps with his mouth taped shut at night in an effort to improve his rest.

Speaking on Logan Paul's Impaulsive podcast, the striker discussed the extreme methods he uses to boost performance.

He said: "I think sleep is the most important thing in the world. To sleep good, simple kind of things [like] blue-blocking glasses, shutting out all the signals in the bedroom, I think is really important.

"Doing a lot of things is not good but doing small things every single day for a longer period really pays off."

Fast start

Beto scored on his Everton debut on Wednesday

Sean Dyche was full of praise for new recruit Beto after the striker scored on his Everton debut on Wednesday.

The Toffees progressed to round three of the Carabao Cup after a 2-1 win at Doncaster, with goals from the £30million man and fellow newbie Arnaut Danjuma.

And Dyche said of the striker: "He's adapted very quickly, done very well tonight.

"With all due respect, the Premier League is different, but he's shown the rawness, the pace and the effect that he can have on a team.

"It gives us something different, which is what we brought him here for."

The Brighton midfielder will hook up with Hansi Flick's squad for friendly matches against Japan and France.

The selection gives Gross a shot at being part of the host nation's Euro 2024 campaign next summer.

Wolves add to their pack

Enso Gonzalez has signed for Wolves

Wolves have signed Enso Gonzalez on a five-year deal from Paraguayan club Libertad.

The 18-year-old, described as a "promising wideman" by the club, has scored three goals and assisted two in 23 league games this season.

Libertad also produced Brighton's Julio Enciso and Wolves will hope for a similar impact from their new addition.
