Attacking options

Cody Gakpo is confident Liverpool's attackers will help Jurgen Klopp's men make 2023-24 a season to remember.

Along with Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah, Gakpo is one of five senior forwards on the club's books going into the new campaign.

And the Netherlands international, who was joined on the scoresheet by Diaz as the Reds lost 4-3 to Bayern Munich yesterday, cannot wait to get going.

He said: "We have a lot of options. We have a lot of games so we can choose which option we need for each game.

"I think we have great options [and] that is good for the season.”

Feeling at home

Ruben Loftus-Cheek is relishing life with AC Milan — despite not being able to speak Italian.

The England midfielder, 27, left boyhood club Chelsea earlier this summer to link up with former team-mates Olivier Giroud and Fikayo Tomori at the San Siro.

They have since been joined by another ex-Blues star in Christian Pulisic and having familiar faces around is helping Loftus-Cheek settle in.

He said: "It's always a challenge to arrive in a new country where a different language is spoken.

"I have to say that my team-mates — especially those who speak English well and who I already knew — are really helping me to overcome this first obstacle. I feel really good and am at the right place."

I can feel it coming

Carney Chukwuemeka believes it is only a matter of time before he hits the goal trail for Chelsea.

The English midfielder, 19, impressed during the club's pre-season tour of the United States, which saw Mauricio Pochettino's men win three and draw two of their five games.

Speaking after last night's 1-1 draw with Borussia Dortmund in Chicago, he said: "I've enjoyed my pre-season. During the summer I worked on seeing where I can affect the game.

"I'm 100% sure goals are coming in the Premier League this season.

"I have set myself targets for goals and assists and to help the team win games and trophies. But my target is to break into the first team."

Bring it on

Liverpool star Gemma Bonner is counting down the days to the return of the Women's Super League.

Matt Beard's squad kicked off their pre-season preparations at the club's academy base in Kirkby on Monday ahead of moving to new training facilities at Melwood.

And with the Women's World Cup delaying the start of the 2023-24 WSL campaign until October 1, Bonner is already champing at the bit.

She told Liverpool's website: "It’s exciting. I think it’s almost new beginnings for everyone with a lot of new players coming in.

"We've got a long pre-season but we are going away and have got some great friendlies lined up so it will hopefully prepare us well for the start of the new season.

"We know we've got a lot of hard work to put in but I'm sure this group will be ready."

Blades put Trust in Auston

Sheffield United have snapped up defender Auston Trusty from Arsenal.

The American centre-back, 24, has signed a four-deal with the Blades after spending last season on loan at Birmingham, where he was named Player of the Year.

Trusty said: "I am more than excited. The opportunity to be here at this historic club, and an opportunity to play in the Premier League and show my ability, is everything I could have ever dreamed of growing up as a kid."

Boss Paul Heckingbottom added: "I'm delighted we've managed to get this one over the line.

"It is one of the positions we've been looking to fill and it is with one of our own, a permanent transfer rather than a loan."

Savage decision

Reading's latest transfer embargo has left Charlie Savage in limbo.

Just 48 hours after the Royals signed him and fellow midfielder Lewis Wing, the Royals were hit by a fresh ban having only seen their last one lifted a month ago.

The EFL are refusing to register both players until an unpaid tax bill has been settled with HMRC.

And that has left boss Ruben Selles fuming ahead of his side's Championship opener against Peterborough on Saturday.
