Danny Welbeck was disappointed with Brighton's 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace despite his superb late header rescuing the Seagulls late on.

In a game of two halves at Selhurst Park, Jordan Ayew deservedly put the Eagles in front on the stroke of half-time after a mistake by goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.

But Roberto De Zerbi's men were much improved in the second period as Welbeck came off the bench after to earn a point.

Despite avoiding defeat at their rivals, Welbeck felt they should have taken maximum points in South London.

The striker, 33, told Sky Sports: "I think as a group we are a bit disappointed because we wanted to come here and get the three points.

"I feel like we should be a bit higher in the table with the way we've performed and there have been some results that got away from us. It happened again tonight.

"It's nice to be back on the scoresheet. I have been out for a while and before that I was putting in some really good performances. We want to be getting three points more consistently."

Despite qualifying from their maiden Europa League group as winners, Brighton's league form has been poor for some time.

The South Coast side have won just two of their last 12 Premier League games, having won five of their first six of the campaign.

On their league showing, the former Manchester United striker said: "It's not good enough, The standards that we have set and what we want to build on.

"Obviously, it is difficult with the schedule with Europe but it is important that we get back to the basics.

"What brought us here in the first place, we want to keep that. The group wants to improve and get better."

The Eagles, meanwhile, were denied their first league in seven but Roy Hodgson admitted his opponents deserved to take something from the game.

He told Sky Sports: "Our players stuck at the task well. I can't deny Brighton were worthy of a point especially with the quality of that equalising goal.

"But at the end of the day, in a derby game, we have to be satisfied with a point."
