- Burnley have lost their first two league games
- Recommended bet: Tottenham to win

Tuesday’s EFL Cup loss at Fulham aside, Ange Postecoglou has made a dream start as Tottenham manager and the enjoyment can last a little while longer with victory anticipated at Burnley.

Spurs were held to a 2-2 draw at Brentford in their Premier League curtain-raiser but they have built on that with a brace of 2-0 victories over Manchester United and Bournemouth.

It is so far so good for Tottenham without Harry Kane and a large part of that has been down to the immediate influence of James Maddison, who already has a goal and two assists to his name following his summer arrival from Leicester.

Spurs are playing with a great deal of courage and energy and Tuesday’s penalty shootout defeat to Fulham is best ignored after Postecoglou opted to make nine changes.

Burnley did seal their place in the third round of the EFL Cup, courtesy of a 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest on Wednesday, but they have had a day less to recover.

Vincent Kompany’s men must also respond to a winless start to the Premier League campaign.

Having soared to last season’s Championship title with 101 points, the Clarets have lost their opening two games, suffering a 3-0 defeat at home to Manchester City and then suffering a 3-1 reverse against visiting Aston Villa.

Team news

Burnley remain without injured forward players Darko Churlinov and Michael Obafemi while German defender Jordan Beyer is a doubt having missed the Clarets' last two matches.

Tottenham, meanwhile, must continue without sidelined trio Ryan Sessesgon, Bryan Gil and Rodrigo Bentancur.

Spurs will also be sweating on the fitness of Richarlison, who has been leading the line in Kane’s absence, after the Brazilian limped off with an ankle issue in the midweek EFL Cup clash at Fulham.

The stats

It has been a tough start to the season for Burnley boss Vincent Kompany

Burnley have lost their opening two Premier League games, conceding three goals in suffering home losses to Manchester City and Aston Villa.

Tottenham, on the other hand, have recorded back-to-back wins and are now unbeaten in four top-flight outings, scoring at least twice on each occasion.

Spurs have recorded consecutive clean sheets, but they have seen both teams score in eight of their last 10 away league games.

Over the course of this season and last, Burnley have seen over 2.5 goals land in six of their last seven league games.

Tottenham have won five of the last seven meetings between the pair, three of those victories ending 1-0.

Prediction

Having been getting used to negative tactics under defensive-minded managers, Tottenham supporters must be delighted with what they have seen from their side in the early days of Postecoglou’s reign.

The players look hungry and the football is free-flowing, something which has contributed to their exciting start of seven points from three games.

Publicidad

That includes back-to-back wins 2-0 over Manchester United and Bournemouth and they look ready to add Burnley to that hit list.

With six goals scored, Tottenham are looking lively in attack with Maddison slotting in seamlessly behind the front three of Heung-Min Son, Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski.

Spurs have had 52 shots across their opening three games, a total bettered only by four clubs so far, whereas Burnley have managed only 15 across their two games.

The Clarets have had a tough start with fixtures against Manchester City and Aston Villa, but they are still adjusting to life in the Premier League and this current Spurs crop doesn’t look any easier.
