Tie or Luton double chance

Luton can climb out of the Premier League's bottom three by claiming a win in their rearranged game at Bournemouth on Wednesday.

The Hatters should be boosted by their late equaliser at Crystal Palace on Saturday while their hosts know of the dangers of facing strugglers, having had to come back from two goals down to earn a draw at home to bottom-of-the-table Sheffield United.

Team news

Bournemouth's Marcos Senesi has been ruled out with a hamstring injury, while fellow defenders Max Aarons and Ryan Fredericks remain sidelined for the Cherries.

Defenders Mads Andersen and Amari'i Bell are out for Luton, while Teden Mengi is doubtful. The game looks set to come too early for striker Elijah Adebayo and midfield Albert Sambi Lokonga, while Marvelous Nakamba and Jacob Brown are also still missing.

The stats

- Bournemouth have kept two clean sheets in their last 10 home league games

- Luton have scored in all but one of their last 10 league away matches

- Bournemouth have won just one of their last six league matches at the Vitality Stadium

Publicidad

- Seven of Luton's last 10 league encounters have featured at least four goals

- The Hatters' only defeat in their last five league away games was at Liverpool

Prediction

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola will be desperate to ensure his side's season does not peter out

The prize of moving out of the bottom three is there for Luton to grab on Wednesday and there is a decent chance they can at least gain something from their trip to Bournemouth.

Luton have shown a lot more fight than the other two teams who were promoted from the Championship, Burnley and Sheffield United, but they should take a great deal of heart from the way Bournemouth struggled to get a point against the Blades on Saturday.

That 2-2 tie, courtesy of an injury-time equaliser, means the Cherries have won just one of their last six league games on their own patch and a strong end to 2023 looks like a distant memory.

Luton have won just one of their last nine league games, but they have given a good account of themselves in recent away matches and should not fear a trip to the south coast.

Their only defeat in their last five road outings was at Liverpool after Cauley Woodrow grabbed them a point at Palace on Saturday and they are worth supporting in the double-chance market where a Luton win or a draw would be a winning bet.
