Bernardo Silva is determined to right the wrongs of Manchester City's Champions League final loss two years ago after the Portuguese's brace helped his side book their place this season's showpiece in Istanbul.

The 28-year-old struck twice in the first half in a 4-0 mauling of holders Real Madrid at the Etihad to secure a superb 5-1 aggregate win in the semi-final tie.

It is the Citizens' second final in three years having agonisingly lost 1-0 to Chelsea in the 2021 edition, with Inter Milan standing in their way this time around.

And star performer Silva, who started that game in Lisbon, insists he and his team-mates want to ensure there are no more heartbreaks as they hunt the club's first ever Champions League triumph.

Speaking in the aftermath of the dominant win at the Etihad, he said: "The final of the Champions League is always going to be an amazing occasion.

"I've only played in one and the outcome wasn't very happy for me. Let's try and change that!

"We'll be playing against a tough team. I watched last night's game and they are very organised collectively.

"We are going to study them and the manager's plan once again and try to put in the best possible performance individually and collectively."

City already laid one demon to rest with tonight's victory, having fallen short in a dramatic semi-final clash against the same opponent last season.

Two late Real goals in normal time turned the tie on its head in dramatic fashion 12 months ago but City's clinical display eliminated any chance of another late collapse.

Silva added: "The difference to last year was that the chances we created, we took them [this time].

"[We have] so much respect for this team. They have won this competition 14 times and most of these players have won this competition five times, so we have massive respect for them.

"We had the disappointment of last season and we tried to learn from the mistakes we made."
